Yeats bids for Vintage hat-trick 24-Apr-09
Seamie Heffernan is looking forward to getting the leg up on Yeats at Navan on Sunday as the pair bid to bring up a hat-trick in the Vintage Crop Stakes.

Aidan O'Brien's eight-year-old has taken this Listed prize for the last two years under Heffernan before going on to win his second and third Gold Cups at Royal Ascot.

Heffernan reports the legendary stayer to be in fine form at home and although he is likely to improve for the run, the rider is hopeful Yeats' class will see him through.

"I'm really looking forward to the weekend. I've sat on him at home and he seems ready enough to start off. Aidan likes to start him off in this race as it is a spin away from home and a nice confidence-booster for him," said Heffernan.

"I'd say he's very similar to how he was at this stage last year, so hopefully he is forward enough to the business. He is a top-class stayer so you would be hopeful he has the class to see him through. It would be great to win it for a third year but I suppose the easiest thing to do is ride the best horse in the race."

Yeats is likely to face a stern test on his seasonal reappearance with recent Curragh winner Baron De'L lining up for Edward Harty. John Oxx's Alandi is another interesting contender, while Hindu Kush and The Betchworth Kid both make the journey from England.

The latter finished second on his seasonal reappearance at Nottingham earlier this month and his owner Henry Ponsonby is in confident mood as he bids to go one better.

"I'm told there is a lot of rain happening and a lot of rain being forecast which will be very much in our favour. I think Yeats is going to get a bit of a shock on Sunday. Our horse ran well on his comeback but he is a two-stone better horse on soft ground," Ponsonby told At The Races.

And jockey Johnny Murtagh (who rode Yeats to his last 2 Gold Cup victories) told the BBC: "He could win an Arc.

As a 3yo he won a Derby trial at 2000m and at 4 won a Coronation Cup at 2400m.  I am not saying he would win a King George or Arc but if he could find that sort of form he may well be competitive.  However, Coolmore are a breeding operation, 4 Gold Cups will already have stuffed his chances as a stallion, so they would only run him if they had no other chance and simply wanted to try and stop something else being a King George or Arc winner.

He got lapped by 32 lengths in his start prior to the Gold Cup over 2615m
And he's not a 4yo anymore

things to consider here, Yeats cannot run 11.5 to the furlong, ever, absolute rubbish.
The best horse he has ever beaten was a broken down 9 year old Media Puzzle.

Vinnie Roe beat Yeats even when past his  best.

Geordiland figures prominently year after year in Yeats best efforts and he is rubbish.

The youngest jockey to win a Melbourne Cup was 12. Imagine the lead weights he would have needed to ride 60 kgs    lol lol lol lol

if the jock was a 12 yo O.Larsy,he would've had to waste for 3 months  lol

off a slow pace, weaker stayers than yeats have run their last 600m in 34.5,which for those not mathematically minded is 11.5 per 200m

We are not talking about running the last 600m in 11.5 sec to the furlong Da Judge, any horse can run his last 600m in 11.5 to the furlong, what they claim is he can run the trip at 11.5 to the furlong.

Deep Impact, which I regard as the greatest stayer in the world, couldn't even do that over 3200, and he holds the world record  Undecided
