Wilde About Warrnambool
Promising galloper Hissing Sid remains on track for the Warrnambool Cup after he trounced his older compatriots in the RSL Plate (2000m) at Flemington this afternoon.

Settling second last in the six horse field, Wayne Hokai saved up ground approaching the home bend racing underneath horses before pushing out at the 300m mark and dashing away from his rivals.

In the run to the line, Hissing Sid ($1.65-$1.85 fav) defeated Hassle ($21-$26) by four and a quarter lengths with Our Smoking Joe ($3-$3.10) boxing on bravely in the straight to hold down third ahead of Humaway ($16-$17).

Trained by the father and son combination of Bill and Symon Wilde, Hissing Sid will now contest the Warrnambool Cup (2350m) on May 7.

"She's ticking over well and hopefully we don't get a track that's too wet," Symon Wilde said.

"We've had a of Hamilton Cup winners that we have thought would go good in the Warrnambool Cup and they've just not handled that last day track - I think it's about the 27th race of the carnival."

Hissing Sid"You really need a versatile horse to get through it," Wilde added.

Father Bill was equally impressed.

"That was a pretty impressive win today."

"I think he'll keep improving over distance and he's just a lovely horse that will get better with racing."

"After Warrnambool we'll probably turn him out and look forward to the spring," Wilde Snr revealed.

It will be a busy carnival for the stable with Arch Symbol expected to be a major player in the Wangoom Handicap (1200m) on May 6.

When asked to compare Hissing Sid to capable galloper Baughurst, Wilde suggested Hissing Sid doesn't possess the same brilliance in the straight.

Bill Wilde"I don't think he's quite got the dash that Baughurst has but I've got no doubt he'll get over further ground - he's going the right way."

Hissing Sid is by Golden Snake out of an At Talaq mare named Domitrix.

Domitrix has now produced six foals with former Adelaide galloper Keytocache the only other winner to date.

Hissing Sid, has had 12 starts for five wins and four placings with today's victory taken his prizemoney to $210,090.
