Apprentice Josh Adams Suspended For Seven Months
Racing NSW Stewards today conducted an inquiry into the certified findings of two Official Racing Laboratories of the presence of a banned substance in the urine sample taken from licensed apprentice jockey Josh Adams, following apprentice Adams's riding at the Gosford race meeting on Tuesday, 5 April 2011.
In accordance with AR81A(4), apprentice Adams was permitted to continue to ride under the rules after providing a sample at the Canterbury Park race meeting on 20 April 2011 which was found to be free of any banned substance.
Evidence today was taken from Apprentice Adams, his master, trainer Mr Gerald Ryan, and Racing NSW Apprentice Jockey Mentor and Counsellor, Mr Pat Webster.
Apprentice Adams pleaded guilty to a charge under AR81A(1)(a) of having provided a sample of his urine at the Gosford race meeting on 5 April 2011 which upon analysis was found to contain a banned substance.
After taking into account Apprentice Adam’s age, his prior good record, forthright evidence and personal circumstances, the Stewards issued a suspension of his apprentice jockey’s licence in full for a period of 7 months to commence on Sunday, 4 June 2011 and to expire on Thursday, 5 January 2012 on which day he may ride.
Stewards ruled that should he complete a satisfactory period of professional counselling the final 2 months of the suspension would be stayed thus allowing apprentice Adams to resume race riding on 5 November 2011.
Stewards further rule that apprentice Adams be permitted to resume trackwork and barrier trials on 5 November 2011 and should he complete a satisfactory period of professional counselling, he is eligible to resume riding trackwork and barrier trials on 5 September 2011.
Apprentice Adams was advised of his right of appeal and referred to Racing NSW Apprentice Jockey Mentor and Counsellor, Mr Pat Webster, to oversee his counselling program.
