With all the talk about the jumps racing prolonging the life of a racehorse (I'don't believe this for a minute), how about investigating Gai Waterhouse.

I was wondering if anyone has any statistics on the percentage of her horses that actually reach
: the age of 4
: the age of 5
: the age of 6
above the age of 6:

I'm sure most of these would be less than 10% (above 6 would be 1-2%) so why isn't anyone investigating her

so why isn't anyone investigating her

because she doesn't train jumpers,ps she also doesn't send them to the knackery,a lot of her cast offs end up all over aus

Sorry all what I meant was the longevity of the number of horses that have actually been through her stable not just those currently in her stable.

I'm sure the list would be quite large

Gai's dismay at jockey worries
Brad Waters
Monday, 11 May 2009

The Gai Waterhouse stable has vented its “frustration” after Blake Shinn’s Doomben suspension left Sydney’s leading trainer without a stable rider for Saturday’s Doomben Cup meeting.

Shinn joined Nash Rawiller on the sidelines after being found guilty of careless riding aboard Rabbuka last Saturday which forced the stable to look elsewhere for riders for upcoming meetings.

“It’s just really frustrating to have both of them (Shinn & Rawiller) suspended so often at the moment,” stable manager Robyn Hartney said.

“It’s painful for them as well as us.

“They do so much work with our horses and know them and the suspensions are a bit annoying.”

Hartney said the stable was working through the suspension issue “as a team”, adding the jockeys had Waterhouse’s full support.

Waterhouse has decided to use local talent on Saturday, drafting in Brisbane jockeys Scott Seamer and Jim Byrne for Saturday’s meeting.

Seamer will be aboard Rabbuka if he gains a start in the Group I Cup. The son of Giant’s Causeway is 21st in order of entry with the Doomben Cup field capped at 16 starters.

Byrne will be aboard bonny mare Belong To Many in the listed Glenlogan Park Stakes.

Two-year-old filly Modonna and Royal Discretion are nominated but are no certainties to run at Doomben .

Byrne is set to ride both should Waterhouse decide to run them.

I've always kept a good watch out for J Innes when he rides one of her horses as he did seem to have a good record riding for her. Don't know why she didn't give him a few more chances.

I think she is fantastic Matt. One of the world's best trainers.

Have a mate who has owned horses for a few years (about 6 I think - no winners). Bit the bullet and gave his last one to Gai to train and she got it to win first up a month or two back. He said that the thing that struck him was how relaxed and calm the horse looked prior to the race. All his other horses were always carrying on in the box. He couldn't speak more highly of the dealings he had with her as well.

My sister-in-law had a bit to do with her with the local pony club. Also speaks very well of Gai.

I cannot understand the people who seem to bag her at any opportunity.

My daughter worked for her for a while. She liked her.  Gay talks to everybody as if they are her best friend . Very charming lady.

I have to say something negative about Gai. Some of her hats look like they are still living.  lol   lol   lol

I have never met the lady but backed her horses etc for good and bad results. But you have to admire the lady for breaking into a male dominated environement and then training g1 winners too boot. You do have other female trainers who have won races and yes, Gai did  have a father who helped her immensely but you still got to get results. She has certainly done that in her career so far.
