Singapore Mon Trackwork by Takeover, Pompeii & Sarrera
In Singapore, Australian-bred multiple Gr1-winners Takeover Target (Celtic Swing-Shady Stream, by Archregent), Pompeii Ruler (Genuine-West With Night, by Pompeii Court) & Sarrera (Quest For Fame-Zamsong, by Zabeel) all appeared on the Kranji track yesterday morning in the countdown to next Sunday's Gr1 Singapore Airlines International Cup & Gr1 KrisFlyer International Sprint.
Defending KrisFlyer Sprint winner Takeover Target "looked bright within himself as he trotted a lap of the Polytrack before cantering," noted the official trackwork report from the Singapore Turf Club. Trainer Joe Janiak had been concerned about the rising 10-year-old after he left some of his feed on Sunday morning (following his arrival on Saturday evening), but Takeover Target "was back on his feed on Sunday & Janiak was a happy man when he saw his charge 1st thing Monday morning". Janiak confirmed: "He ate up last night which was pleasing. I just think he may have fretted when he first got here & left some of his feed. He usually has a companion when he's been away before & this is something new for him. But he's back on track this morning. He's back eating & drinking & I'm happy with his condition."
International Cup contestants Sarrera & Pompeii Ruler "were both out for light exercise, trotting & cantering a lap of the Polytrack". Clare Rayner (assistant to Sarrera's trainer Mike Moroney) commented: "Looking at him, he's taken it all within his stride. He's adapted well so far to his new conditions & seems to be handling the humidity quite well. He's a lovely horse to handle. He's eaten up, drank plenty & has settled in beautifully." Pat Payet (travelling foreman for Pompeii Ruler's trainer Mick Price) said: "I've travelled with this horse to Dubai & the more he travels the better he gets. He's adapted pretty well to his new conditions & is coping pretty well with the humidity." Payet added Pompeii Ruler had arrived in Singapore "a fit & healthy galloper & would only need 1 serious gallop before Sunday's race" noting: "The boss (Price) is due to come up on Wednesday & I would say that we'll probably give him a gallop on the turf on Thursday. But saying that, if the boss rings up tonight to say gallop him tomorrow, then that's what I'll do."

I suggets those who follow Singapore racing blackbook REAL PLAYER, he ran down the track to Ramjet in a maiden just run. He will do well in a similar class race, the first 2 look resonable prospects for the future.

Race analysis and selections for Friday's racing at Kranji 24 Sep 2009

from Singapore Turf Club web site

RACE 1

After his promising last-start second to Bukit Mas, Grande Estilo (1) looks set to open his accounts. Blinkers seem to have done the trick. World Famousman (5) failed narrowly at his last two runs. He has to overcome an awkward alley this time, but still has solid claims. El Grey (cool was warming up nicely at his last start only to peak on his run. This is similar company and he must be rated with a fair chance. Dollars & Cents (10) mixes her races, but from her inside gate, she should get a lovely run before issuing her challenge down the straight.

RACE 2

Best to go with market guide with so many starters with unexposed form. Rock You (10), a $220,000 yearling, won his barrier trial impressively on September 10. On that run, he should be hard to beat. Winning Dan (11) was a pleasant surprise at debut. He would have improved a few lengths since and will be right in the mix in this. Midlife Crisis (9) has trialled well and from barrier No 1, he could make his presence felt. Cosmic Vanguard (4) didn’t do too badly when a battling seventh to Alacarte. Could be the improver here with Saimee Jumaat jumping on board.

RACE 3

The fairly consistent Count Zerpour (6) is overdue for a win. He did nothing wrong at his last outing, but again found one better (Waipapa). Stick with him and he is bound to repay your faith. Future Baby (2) ran one of his best races this year last time out. If he gets an uncontested lead again, it will take a very good horse to run him down. Best Bid (4) will probably find this harder, but he can still vie for a place. Anecdotal (5) has been a touch disappointing in two starts. He is better drawn in marble one this time and could turn in an improved run.

RACE 4

Model Citizen (6) sprinted nicely up the straight for a barrier trial win on September 15. Expected to make further headway in this. Lim Lim (5) turned in a more encouraging run second-up. The apprentice claim will certainly come in handy. Chase The Dream (13) has not quite backed up after his promising debut third. He is drawn wide and will have to work hard to keep in touch. Place not beyond him. Formerly known as Digitalis, the Japanese-bred Kirin Arising (11) is resuming from a one-year spell. May need the run but a forward showing is not to be ruled out.

RACE 5

One-horse race. Better Than Ever (6) first. Daylight second. The Laurie Laxon-trained freak has scared the opposition and is on his way to another romp. To make matters worse for his rivals, he carries only 51.5kg. Best Echo (3), Trigger Success (2) and Hear Me (1) can fight for the minors and may finish in that order – a big space behind.

RACE 6

Chilli (1) has been ultra-consistent of late and is deserving of a change of luck. He’s been placed second at his past three outings and the claim here will be of benefit. The Hatchet Man (3) was a major flop last time but his previous form had been solid. He’s a class dropper this time around and must be respected as should Rena Cross (2) who wasn’t disgraced behind Locus Standi last time out in tougher company than this and looks well suited. The Firebird (6) was solid in winning last time and although up in weight should not be dismissed.

RACE 7

A small field of stayers but it looks a competitive line-up. Cliff Brown looks to have a strong hand with Daring Commander (3) and Samurai King (7). Have a leaning towards Samurai King who will appreciate the light impost. He was strong last time, getting back and finishing strongly and the 2000m journey here looks ideal. Daring Commander will be up on the speed and be tough to run down with Ric McMahon in the saddle while Marco Kid (6) got too far back first-up but did run home soundly and the extra ground here is a plus. Stealth (4) bounced back to form with a solid win last time and the extra ground shouldn’t pose any problems.

RACE 8

A small field but it looks a good contest. Dr Lemon (3) is going to appreciate the weight drop this time around. At his last couple of efforts he has had little peace in the run carrying 59.5kg and getting run down. He’s better off with this lighter weight and will give them something to chase. Mexican Rose (6) is unbeaten in three starts since arriving in Singapore and did have to pull out all stops last time. It’s never easy for a three-year-old filly to take on older horses at this time of the year, but she does look the exception to the rule while Mooring (4) didn’t finish the race off as expected last time but is worth another chance in this small field. Superb (1) is going to strip fitter for his first-up assignment and must not be dismissed.

RACE 9

Not the strongest of races to finish off the night. A repeat effort by Lamborghini Flame (1) of his latest run should see the gelding hard to beat. He scored a solid win over Oil Baron two starts back before fighting hard over a shorter trip behind Mexican Rose last time out. He’s drawn nicely and although up in weight should go close. High Noon (5) has drawn a horror gate but his form since coming to Singapore has been good. He’ll run well while Bengawan (2) found the trip too far last time and back to this distance can be expected to run well. Noble One (cool will strip fitter for his first-up outing and the extra ground here is to his liking.

Singapore Turf Club

RACE 1

Not a particularly strong affair to open proceedings. Daring Youth (4) has drawn a shocking barrier back his form has been most consistent. Strung together three second placings on the trot before a fading seventh when up in distance two starts back. He’s ideally suited at this trip and should be tough to hold out. First Blood (1) was a flop last time, again when stepped up in distance. Back to this trip and with John Powell on board he should run well while Gate Crasher (5) has found peak form with two wins and a sound sixth last time out and must be included in the hopes. Northern Spirit (2) has been a little disappointing of late, but is back in grade here and looks an improver.

RACE 2

Not a lot of disclosed form here with 10 of the 15 starters lining-up for their first starts. Aardwolf (2) looked promising in his only trial to date and has Robbie Fradd on board. He’s drawn nicely in gate 3 and should be competitive. Dan Baron (5) has performed creditably in his two trials so far and has drawn OK for John Powell while Zambezi Rush (12) has been to the trials on three occasions, performing satisfactorily and should get a nice run from gate five for Danny Beasley. Of the raced brigade Kukai (1) has performed creditably so far and should not be discounted.

RACE 3

An open race on the Polytrack. Guru Glee (3) has been performing soundly of late and gets his chance here. Chased home the handy Daad’s The Way last time and from a good barrier here should get a good run in transit for Vlad Duric. Finstock Road (1) has had the three runs since coming from Argentina. He showed signs of a coming win with his latest third and should appreciate the trip while Be With You (6) made a stack of ground last time and the extra distance here will be an advantage. Get’Em Get’Em (9) can be a little difficult to follow but on his best behaviour should not be dismissed.

RACE 4

A drop in class should see Apache Junction (1) get back into winning form. A debut winner, Apache Junction has just one other placing to his credit in 10 subsequent starts. However he has performed soundly against much better company than the Class 5 lot he meets here and he should prove very hard to stop. Giro (5) was a strong winner two starts back and was far from disgraced last time out while The Hatchet Man (6) returns to the Polytrack here after some mixed form on the turf and should not be dismissed in this company. Excellent Luck (3) is still a maiden but is down in grade on his latest performances and should be included in the mix.

RACE 5

Just A Man (10) looks very promising and can continue on his winning way. A veteran of three race starts, he has two wins and a second to his credit, with his two victories coming on the Polytrack. He’s drawn nicely in gate 4 and Danny Beasley should give him a lovely run. Doraemon (1) has paid the penalty for some good performances with a sharp rise in the weights here but he looks well up to the test while Model Citizen (6) looked the goods breaking his maiden status last time out and can keep the successful run of the Jupiter Stable going here. Ace Armando (12) has drawn off the track a shade, but on the minimum here he should be in the contest for a long way.

RACE 6

Streep (6) just got touched off in the concluding stages last time out. The 1800m may suit him better, but steps over Polytrack only for the second time in 11 runs. El Sordo (2) returned to more positive signs at his last run. Drawn an alley, he looks poised to take up the running again and give his rivals something to chase in the home straight. Last-start winner Daad’s The Way (7) is up in grade and tackling 1800m for the first time. His previous wins suggest he should be up to the task, but may still find this a little too rich at this stage. Goes well on synthetic surface, though. Don’t write off the toppie Imperial Green (1). He is proven over the trip and a new jockey may be just the change of luck he needed. First Polytrack test.

RACE 7

Kalash (3) has good early speed and should be able to get a nice trail behind. He carries a bit of lead but is a strong type and looks set to put his best foot forward. Weekly Club (6) pulled his apprentice’s arms off last time out to engage into a cut-throat battle for the lead with Dr Lemon before floundering. If ridden more sensibly, he can be in with a say. This may be a tad sharp for Noble Manor (1), but if they go mad in front, he will be running on. Be A Man’s (4) form has slipped a little. He jumps from a wide alley but if he can overcome this handicap, he will have a say.

RACE 8

A tough race to assess. None of them stand out, but on his last-start fast-finishing second to Glory Knight, Nefertiti (9) may finally open her account at her 22nd start. Bombardier (1) could do little up against stablemate World Fantasy over 1800m last time out. He is getting close to another win and is worth following in this. Seacucumber (2) should be a factor over this trip and on his latest form, won’t be without a say. Has shown a liking for Polytrack at his last attempt with a placing. How Can Stop (5) is a dour sort of stayer who can get into the frame if things go his way.

RACE 9

Anecdotal’s (5) last-start win was impressive. He reverts to Polytrack and should go just as well. Strong claims again. Howgoodisthat (1) has scored all his four wins on the Polytrack. Nicely drawn and expected to be in the firing line for a long way. Ryan James (10) is first-up from a three-month layoff and is up in class. Place claims. Monkey Man (3) is not without ability though his initial form has gone by the wayside. Drawn in marble one. Outside chance.

Worth pointing out the Singapore star Rocket Man has trialled successfully as part of his comeback en route to Dubai. According to reports he'll have a start in Singapore before heading to Dubai.

I am glad you said that, when I saw the result and Dane Rippers son had run second at any old odds, I figured it must have been an ordinary field.
