The Murray Bridge stable of Ken Buick has been quarantined after a weanling on the property was found to have strangles.

Laboratory testing confirmed the infection and acting under racing rule ARR.64(k)(4), Thoroughbred Racing South Australia [trSA] stewards have declared the property occupied by Buick to be "an infected place" and ordered that horses on the property be confined until further notice.

The infected weanling was purchased at a recent Magic Millions Adelaide sale conducted at Morphettville on April 19 and subsequently stewards have placed an alert to all owners or trainers that purchased horses at the sale.

Stewards have also visited a property in the Adelaide Hills that has notified the possibility of having infected weanlings and mares.

TRSA Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Horridge has reported back to stewards the property has initiated appropriate bio-security strategies to contain the infection.

Famed Stud in Lock Down
The breeding operation of Lindsay Park Stud has been locked down after a strangles outbreak in South Australia was tracked to the famous property.

TRSA stewards yesterday advised the public that an infected horse had been confirmed at the stables of Murray Bridge trainer Ken Buick.

The horse was a weanling purchased at a recent Adelaide sale from the draft of Lindsay Park.

It was today discovered that horses at the Angaston property were infected with the contagious disease.

The sale at the Morphettville auditorium, where Buick purchased the youngster unknowingly infected with strangles, was held on April 19 - over three weeks before strangles was detected and that property placed in quarantine.

Lindsay Park Stud boss Sam Hayes has been forced to withdraw his large draft of horses from the upcoming Inglis Melbourne Great Southern Sale.

The only weanling under their banner that's still heading to the sale is a Snippetson filly who is being prepared on another property in South Australia.
