Waller to train AJC Derby winner
Brad Waters
Wednesday, 30 November 2011

Rosehill trainer Chris Waller has added another high-class performer to his stable after taking over the training of Group I winner Shoot Out.

Queensland trainer John Wallace prepared Shoot Out to win seven of his 24 starts, including the Group I AJC Australian Derby (2400m) and Group I Randwick Guineas (1600m) in 2010.

Shoot Out has gone winless in 11 starts since his win in the Group II Liston Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield in August last year before niggling issues prevented the son of High Chaparral performing at his best during the Brisbane winter carnival.

Waller said there was no falling out between Wallace and the Shoot Out's owners. The Rosehill trainer praised Wallace's efforts to prepare the son of High Chaparral to win more than $1.9 million in prizemoney.

"This horse has reached the greatest heights in racing and it will be arduous task to continue on with the platform that was set by Mr Wallace,” Waller said.

"The owners have indicated that the horse may benefit from a change of environment after struggling to recapture his best form in the past 12 months.

"With the upcoming Sydney carnival approaching and the likelihood of him returning to racing sometime throughout this period, it seemed logical to make Sydney his new base.

"I feel very privileged and honoured to be taking over the training of this horse and look forward to preparing him for the upcoming autumn carnival.”

Chris Waller is being very modest.

I reckon this is a very exciting development.

Great effort again from this fellow yesterday.

Waller has got him humming, and another major win seems a formality.

Strong win yesterday.

He ran up to his previous runs, and was lucrative odds, IMO.  Thumb Up

Yeah good to see him return to form.

I'd expect John would have been happy.
