I'm with you Steve a great place to visit.

Make sure you head out to the Katherine gorges .absolutely stunning.

Take in a spot of Barra fishing if you get the chance.

I have been going up there nearly every year for the last 25 years for the carnival, which is July/August and just a great time of year. Have had some really great trips and have had a few winners there as well.

If you want to go fishing for Barra, go to either Shady Camp or Coroboree, but go with a guide who will pick you up in Darwin and take you out and back. It is a great day and you are nearly assured of catching a feed. The best time for fishing is March/April when the rivers are still running after the wet.

Found an even better place a few years ago - Broome - and its carnival is straight after the Darwin carnival. It is truly a special part of the world and Cable Beach is something else. Actually the racerack is on a point and overlooks Cable beach one side and Roebuck Bay on the other side. The two main days are Ladies day on the Wednesday and cup day on the Saturday and they get 6,000 - 8,000 people both days. I think you can get direct flights from Brisbane this year.

Been group of 6 of us flying up & going to the Palmerston on the sat and monday cup for past 4 years. Brilliant couple of days

Found it lot more difficult to get accommodation this year despite booking in October as done previously. Any one else same issue?

Had been recommended to go out to pub at mandorah?? any feedback on that?
