Sneak peak - Darley youngster gets jump on rivals

Friday, June 19, 2009

The Darley operation provided sneak preview of one of their early spring carnival prospects when Rarefied scored a comfortable win in a jumpout over 800 metres at Flemington on Friday morning.

Settling just behind the leaders he railed through over the final 200 metres to be in front on the line in the time of 48.81 secs. He wasn’t ridden out but still managed to gallop his final 400 metres in 22.89 secs.

“That was a nice effort,” assistant trainer Paul Snowden said. “He’s coming along just as we want him to.”

Rarefied, a rising three year old gelding by Commands, finished second behind subsequent Blue Diamond Stakes winner Reward For Effort in the colts and geldings division of the Blue Diamond Preview.

He was spelled after finishing midfield in the Blue Diamond at his fourth raceday appearance having recorded victories at Seymour and Caulfield at his first two outings.

“I doubt he’s up there with the best of our rising three year olds so we’re planning to have him up and running for the early three year old stakes races,” he said.
