With a good crowd expected at Gosford on Wednesday, June 24 to farewell renowned racecaller Ian Craig at the Listed Takeover Target Stakes meeting, Byerley Stud has decided to take the opportunity to parade its new stallion Sharkbite at the races.

Blue-blooded Sharkbite is one of only two stakes-winning sons of champion sire Redoute’s Choice to be retired to the Hunter Valley this spring and at a fee of $7,700 represents great value for the discerning breeder seeking a quality individual from one of the world’s finest female families.

“Sharkbite will be paraded at the races and both myself and Stud Manager Kelvin Williams will be on hand to talk to breeders,” said Martin Hawcroft of Byerley Stud.

Sharkbite is closely related to champion European sire Dansili who featured at the Royal Ascot meeting last week with Father Time, winner of the Group Two King Edward VII Stakes and Delegator, who finished a gallant neck second to Mastercraftsman in the prestigious Group One St James Palace Stakes.

“Redoute’s Choice is a champion stallion and everyone is looking to find the son that will be his successor and there is no reason it won’t be Sharkbite, instead of the other sons of Redoutes standing at four or five times his fee,” said Hawcroft.

“After all he is a former boom two year-old, a stakes-winner and a $900,000 Inglis Easter yearling with a female line that is arguably the best of any Redoute’s Choice stallion at stud.”

As part of the Southern Cross Breeders group, Byerley Stud are also looking forward to the running of the Listed Takeover Target (formerly Pacesetter) Stakes with smart sprinter Welkom Gold (4g Johannesburg (USA) x With Ease Louise) out to improve on a last start second in the Listed AJC June Stakes at Randwick.

A $30,000 purchase from the Southern Cross Breeders draft at the 2006 Inglis Scone Yearling Sale, Welkom Gold has won four of nine starts placing on a further three occasions and has won more than $145,000 in prizemoney.

Hunter Valley based Byerley Stud owner Martin Hawcroft has not launched a new stallion since Victoria Derby winner and proven Group One producer Nothin’ Leica Dane retired in 1998 and the horse that has persuaded him back into the stallion business is blue-blooded Redoute’s Choice stakes-winner Sharkbite.
