Fleeting Spirit Wins UK Gr1 July Cup Former European Champion 1st Season Sire & Chatswood Stud shuttler Invincible Spirit (Green Desert-Rafha, by Kris) celebrated a Gr1 triumph when Irish-bred 4YO mare Fleeting Spirit (Invincible Spirit-Millennium Tale, by Distant Relative) scored by 1.25 lengths in the £400,000 (A$831,337) Gr1 Darley July Cup (6 furlongs on turf) for 3YOs & up at Newmarket. Fleeting Spirit (ridden by Tom Queally for trainer Jeremy Noseda) raced erratically in the closing stages (& had to overcome a Stewards' enquiry) to defeat 4YO entire Main Aim (Oasis Dream-Orford Ness, by Selkirk) & South African 5YO entire J J The Jet Plane (Jet Master-Majestic Guest, by Northern Guest). Noseda commented on the victory: "This is a Group 1 she deserves as I feel when my horses got sick just before Ascot last year that she was robbed of winning the King's Stand... She never really bounced back for the rest of the year but today was a great result and a great performance."
