Few horses in recent decades have aroused as much emotion as 2006 Gr1 Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro (Dynaformer-La Ville Rouge, by Carson City), who suffered catastrophic injuries to his off hind leg in May 2006's Preakness Stakes & was finally humanely put down in February 2007. That's one of the major reasons there will be intense interest in the graded stakes debut of his younger full-brother Nicanor this weekend. According to thoroughbredtimes.com, Nicanor is one of ten 3YOs entered in the US$750,000 Gr2 Virginia Derby on turf at Colonial Downs on Saturday. From 2 starts on turf (where he has been taken to the lead in both cases) Nicanor remains undefeated, highlighted by a 15.25-lengths blitz of his opposition when landing his Maiden victory at Delaware Park in May.
