Anybody here love their Hong Kong racing like i do ?

I had 2 bets Saturday, SAFETY FIRST trained by a guy that i reckon goes alright over there P F Yiu, then i backed up again on B Prebble  CHEEKY LAD  beer

Anybody have a history on P F Yiu, he has very few runners but always has a great strike rate and one to follow over there.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club has approved a proposal that the Cathay Pacific International Trial races be opened up to international competition.

The three races, which will this year be run on 15 November (Cup Trial, 2000m) and 22 November (Sprint Trial, 1200m and Mile Trial, 1600m) are all HK Group 2 races, designed as lead up events for the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International races (CXHKIR), which will as usual be run on the second Sunday in December.

Horses trained outside Hong Kong will only be eligible to run in the Trials if invited by the CXHKIR Selection Panel, and only horses which are guaranteed an invitation to run in the Hong Kong International Races will be considered for selection. In addition, the maximum number of overseas-trained horses invited to run in each of the Trials will be four.

Jockey Club expands to Guangdong
'Grand vision' includes acquiring Asian Games equestrian site as new training venue

Alan Aitken

A state-of-the-art training centre will be developed near Guangzhou by 2014 as part of the Hong Kong Jockey Club's grand plan to secure racing's future.

The club yesterday spoke to trainers, owners and some club staff about the plan to acquire land at Conghua, 40 kilometres northeast of Guangzhou, subsequent to its use for the equestrian events of the Asian Games in November next year.

Racing director Bill Nader (pictured) said the plan tied into the club's "grand vision", which will be detailed and presented to the board of stewards in the next few months for its approval, and addressed what is a looming issue with training facilities.

"Our facilities at Sha Tin are over 30 years old. They were originally built with 900 horses in mind, and our horse population is now 1,200," Nader said.

"Sha Tin is built on reclaimed land and also has some structural issues, and it is no simple matter to perform the work it needs. To rebuild it and renovate, we also need something of at least the same standard - and this will be better - to house and train a large number of horses while we do that necessary work on Sha Tin.

"What we don't want, and what is already starting to happen, is Hong Kong's training facilities falling behind places like Singapore and South Korea, which are investing heavily in their facilities now.

"There is no land available in Hong Kong, especially the land we need to sustain our racing for decades to come, so we have to look further afield."

Engineers have levelled off the top of a mountain in constructing the Asian Games equestrian facilities at Conghua, which will provide quarantine and training facilities for around 200 horses, but the Jockey Club plans to double that capacity after the Games.

"Our participation in the Asian Games is in our area of expertise, the equestrian competition, as it was in the Beijing Olympics," Nader said.

"And that opens the way for us to acquire that land after the Games and, from January 2011 onwards, we intend to start developing the training centre with the objective of starting to move horses there from January 2014," Nader said.

"The idea is that 800 horses will remain at Sha Tin, and 400 will be based at Conghua. They will be trained there, barrier trials will take place there, too, and horses engaged in races will be transported to Hong Kong some days beforehand.

"There will be a turf track there as big as Sha Tin, uphill gallops - it will have everything Sha Tin has and more that it has not."

Nader said plans included the broadcasting of gallops and trials at Conghua, so that nothing was hidden from punters.

"It's a long-term plan, and everyone with a stake will be considered. Part of the reason we are so far ahead of this project and giving people an overview now is to enable proper discussions from all parties, to get their input and make sure we are all going in the same direction," Nader said.

Australian jockeys are absolutely killing them in HK, particularly Zac Purton on bolters, but alas they aint bolters on our tabs's. that winner of race 2 'arry 'arry paid $155.50 for $10 in Honkers, just over 14/1.....unitab paid $3.50 a win and $1.10 a drum

that is what i call a ball sucking underlay in the first degree

a minutes silence for they who seek "value" on the TAB betting against the unders tears

no, but M J READ would be too smart to be offering inflated odds an aussie jockey ridden horse, sportingbet were offering from memory $8, but i am of the mindset that still it's half the on course odds, and i'm not in the business of copping unders, which is mostly what's been winning everywhere i've been betting the past 6 to 12 months, Australia wide and overseas too. The only exception was the japan race last sunday featuring scenic blast, but that's not enuff to cover losses for many months  mad   tears angry

Brett Prebble wins race 4 on Royal Portrait, paid $10 best aussie tote which was better than HK shocked shocked

he's always been a gun jockey when in Melbourne, now he is world class, he swept up out wide from last on that winner and out-slogged Douglas Whyte in a close finish

Anyone been over for the International race meeting in December?

I'm heading there this year.

Any recommendations on where to stay?

Going on HKJC website, international visitors can present their passports, pay, and gain entrance to the members. Is this correct?

There are a poultice of joints to stay in over there, check out expedia for good deals. Members access is as per their website and dress is neat casual. If you are going to the Happy Valley meeting on the Wednesday night, the public area is good (beer garden).
