You'd imagine they would have made more from Hong Kong than they do from European racing ?
What do they pay for European or UK racing ?

You are right in that not many on here seem interested in Hong Kong racing.
i tried to start a comp on it once and got zero response.
Ate the Tab pools very big on it in Australia?

World authority confirms upgrading of Cathay Pacific international trials
10/10/2010
The International Federation of Horseracing Authorities’ International Grading and Race Planning Advisory Committee has agreed to the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s proposal that the races formerly known as the Cathay Pacific international trials should be upgraded to international Group 2 status. Previously, the three races were Hong Kong Group 2 events.
The races formerly known as the Cathay Pacific International Sprint Trial, the Cathay Pacific International Mile Trial and the Cathay Pacific International Cup Trial will accordingly be credited with international Group 2 status from this season. They will also be run under new titles which reflect their elevated status, and will be known as the Cathay Pacific Jockey Club Sprint, the Cathay Pacific Jockey Club Mile and the Cathay Pacific Jockey Club Cup.
William A Nader, Executive Director of Racing of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, welcomed the committee’s decision as an indication of Hong Kong’s growing stature in international racing: “It’s a constructive development which means the races which had previously been described simply as trials are now recognized as prestigious events in their own right. We hope and believe that the recognition of their new status will lead to the strengthening of the Turf World Championships sponsored by Cathay Pacific run at our international meeting in December.”
The trials were first opened to international competition in 2009. “One reason we opened up them to overseas competition last year was to make it easier for horses to overcome obstacles related to travel and quarantine,” Nader added. “But we also want to make sure they are bona fide contenders for the championship races in December which remain the principle focus. We now look forward to the arrival in Hong Kong of overseas horses who will be using these newly upgraded races as stepping stones to the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Sprint, the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Mile and the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Cup.”
According to HKJC's Head of Handicapping and Race Planning, Nigel Gray, the basic requirement for a race to be accorded international group status is that it should be well established, having been run at the same distance, with similar conditions and on a similar date for at least three years. The pattern race rating calculated from the ratings for the first four horses home according to World Rankings in those years should reach set levels according to world ratings. For an international Group 3 designation to be agreed, that level is 105. For an international Group 2 it’s 110, and for a Group 1 the average rating of the first four finishers must be 115 or over. By that criterion the races formerly known as the trials fit into the international Group 2 category.

I'm off to Shatin on Sunday and am looking forward to some good racing. Hopefully Snow Fairy brings her best and I'm a big Rocket Man fan, so looking forward to seeing him in the flesh again (he is such a poser). Should be a ripper day.
