Doomben's thong flip-flop by Brisbane Racing Club

THE Brisbane Racing Club has relaxed its stance on the great Australian thong with Doomben declared a flip flop-friendly zone again after a three-year ban.
Under the newly formed Brisbane Racing Club banner (which now manages both major Brisbane race tracks) any form of footwear is welcome in the public precincts at Doomben or Eagle Farm racecourses.
The new rule comes after a bizarre ban on thongs in 2005. Memorably, thong-wearing punters were turned away at the gates – causing a mini-uproar of sorts.
Brisbane Racing Club CEO Stephen Ferguson said it made sense.
"The Brisbane Racing Club is not about to quash the glamour of racing, but for the punters who are seeking a more relaxed day at the track, we can offer that too," he said.
The readers aren't too happy though

Who would wear thongs to the races.

You got money.....you're welcome.....I remember when the casino first opened in Brisbane...one had to be dressed to the nines to get entry....all you need now is the cash............

Oh great decision Steve Ferguson..NOT!! Now there will be more ferals at the races to ruin a day out for families, and others, which racing is still struggling to get back to the tracks. How do bloody thongs make the day more "relaxed"? Then some idiot will cut his feet or slip over, then sue the place for allowing inappropriate footwear. Both codes of racing, gallops and harness, need to clean up their acts and keep ferals out of the tracks. But some of the problem is that many licencees are feral also, dress terribly, and do nothing to make the sports look more "professional". Is it any wonder that Sydney and Melbourne get much better crowds at their meetings, due to being more professional, and being pro active, something Queensland doesn't appear to understand

If you have enough money to go to the races & bet then you have enough to buy yourself a cheap pair of closed in shoes, be they slip on canvas or something else. Thongs belong in the home/garden.
