Anyone got an insider info on how this ones going? Noticed they've not trialled, publicly anyway, if it runs close to it's last run over a 1000m at EF it'll brain them.

I agree with you that at its best it would bolt in but I intend to be very careful backing horses resuming from a spell from that stable this time in.

Putting it delicately , when Jason was in Sydney plenty of them use to lose a leg when they moved south.

Trainer Jason McLachlan hopes to add former top juvenile Acorns to his interstate team if he comes through his first assignment in more than a year at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

McLachlan has Golden Slipper winner Phelan Ready in Sydney preparing for the $1 million Group One Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill on August 29 while stablemate Facile Tigre is back in work preparing for the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on October 31.

Jockey Chris Munce will get a feel of Phelan Ready in an 800-metre barrier trial on the Randwick Kensington track on Friday before riding him in the Group Two $150,000 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday week.

Brad Rawiller, who cannot make Phelan Ready's weight of 50.5kg in the Premiere Stakes, will be aboard the three-year-old in the Golden Rose.

McLachlan's late father Bruce had a big opinion of Acorns as a two-year-old but a series of leg problems forced him to the spelling paddock for more than a year.

The son of Secret Savings will resume in the Brand & Slater Open (1000m) in what will be his first start since finishing second to Youthful Jack in the Listed Doomben Slipper (1350m) in May last year.

Two weeks earlier Acorns scored a narrow win over Youthful Jack in the Listed Golden Stakes (1200m) at Doomben.

"He's had a lot of leg problems but we gave him time and he's going good now," McLachlan said.

"He's a smart horse on his day as he showed when he beat Youthful Jack."

Acorns, who has won three of his six starts, has been in work more than three months after being forced out with a knee injury as a two-year-old.

"He's first-up but he's been in work a long time and I expect him to race well," McLachlan said.

"If he runs well he'll be in line for a Melbourne trip.

"I just want to see how he comes up after Saturday's run first but if he stays sound he'll go away to Melbourne for some of the better sprint races."

Jim Byrne will ride Acorns in his comeback and also will partner stablemate In Rehearsal in the Cullen Open Handicap (1800m).

McLachlan is confident In Rehearsal can atone for his last-start effort when 10th, beaten three lengths, to the Bryan Guy-trained Morning Colours in a 1350-metre Open at Doomben on July 25.

Byrne was making a strong move and loomed up in a winning position on In Rehearsal when the pair was stopped in its tracks near the 200 metres.

"He was a certainty beaten that day and hopefully he'll be hard to beat this time," McLachlan said.
