Browne back to winning form after leg surgery

BRISBANE, Jan 27 AAP - Jockey Damian Browne made a triumphant comeback to the saddle following recent leg surgery with a victory aboard Troubled at Eagle Farm.
Browne, who is restricted to only four rides a meeting because of the seriousness of his leg injury, produced a dashing front-running ride on Troubled who won Wednesday's Childhood Cancer Support Hcp (1500m) by two lengths.
Browne suffered horrific injuries to his left leg in a race fall three years ago and spent 22 months recovering before making his comeback last year.
The former Kiwi rider underwent surgery on his left leg last month to remove screws and a rod and only returned to the saddle last Saturday.
"I had a rod and some screws removed from my leg and I only got back to riding last Saturday and rode two winners at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday," Browne said.
"I can still only take four rides a day but I'm going to see a specialist in six weeks and hopefully I'll get a clearance to ride in more races."
Browne initially feared he would never ride again as a result of the injuries from the Gold Coast fall.
It was the second serious leg injury Browne had suffered since arriving in Queensland in 2002 when he was approached to ride for breeder Jon Haseler and Glenlogan Park Stud near Beaudesert.
Browne, who won the 1996 South Australian Derby on the Cliff Brown-trained Cheviot, has had great success since his arrival winning a number of black-type races in Queensland.
Troubled is trained by Michael Lakey who celebrated a winning double when Ro's Purring won the Myer Handicap (1000m) under Chris Whiteley.
Ro's Purring showed she had a bright future when she maintained her unblemished record from two starts with a two length win over Rich Baby.
Lakey is hoping the four-year-old daughter of Lonhro can measure up to the Brisbane winter carnival after her courageous all-the-way victory.
"She's only had two runs because of bad knees," Lakey said.
"She had a high reserve on her as a yearling at the Inglis Sales but the x-rays she had a week before showed she had some spurs on the knee which required an operation."
Ro's Purring is a half-sister to the Robert Smerdon-trained Global Warming, a winner of seven races including the Listed Canterbury Classic (1100m) in January, 2008.

Damian needs to get  some kind of praise for his ride on Rothera today 

This guy is the best jockey in Qld by lengths 
No question.

He should be in Sydney or Mlb winning the big Group 1 races 

I could only laugh when Easy Running was sent around at $1.75 in R4 at EF based on Browne's win on it last start 
Browne won the race for connections, no doubt !!
I do not know if he sacked it, or the connections sacked him, but if it was the latter, it was an horrendous mistake 
To think a 2kg apprentice will ride your horse within lengths of D.Browne is hilarious.
I am not having a go at Hellyer either.
The fact is Browne is a freak 

Gee DJ you have some beauties in QLD, Damian Browne should be riding Group One winners and Alicia Willick one of the best in the country!! Ya don't mind puttin' a rap on do ya??    gives them something to live up to doesn't it?? talk about pressure??

Just to clarify though, I didn't say Alicia was one of the best in the country, but definitely is in Qld.

The thing I like about Browne is the way he has his mounts travelling in the run. In all the races I watch Australia wide, I cannot find anyone else that consistently has their mounts "travelling" and in the right spot so often. They respond under pressure like few others also. He does not get beaten in many photo finishes 


4 rides for 3 wins and a 3rd today at Caloundra so I don't think the pressure got to him 
I think Alicia trained about 4 winners the week after I gave her a rap also 

mate I am in no way contradicting you, I love people who put their Go nads on the line when they have an opinion whether I agree with it or not( in this case I don't have an opinion anyway so I will adhere to yours on this occasion)

I couldn't work out how to put up the actual photo!

Looking at that photo, it is no wonder he is as good as he is

Another double today on the back of a double at EF on Wednesday.

He does alright considering he only takes 4 rides a day!

He is  one of very few jockeys who will get non triers to win
Almost always has them in the right spot.

2 rides people should watch are Candice last Sunday and Silverzen on Wednesday.

99/100 other jocks get beaten on both of them

I don't think it is "required" anymore, but he seems reluctant to take many more rides
From his last 12 meetings, he has taken 5 rides 3 times with the rest 4 or less.
Before that he never took more than 4 rides.


Since I first posted on Browne, he has had 24 metro rides for 10 wins!!

I don't think there would be many jocks that could match that currently?
I dont have his POT handy but it would be phenomenal 



Unfortunately for me, he has been beaten on a few I thought would win( Excellantes at the top of that list ) and got a couple home that I thought couldn't win 
I cant bag him for any of his beaten rides though, except 1 at Caloundra ( which I didnt back)was ordinary.

I  rate him as one of the best I have seen anywhere in recent times
