Darley Star Medaglia D'Oro Breeding To Southern Time
Darley announced its triple Gr1-winning stallion & leading US 2nd-crop sire Medaglia d'Oro (whose star 3YO filly Rachel Alexandra has won both the Gr1 Kentucky Oaks & Gr1 Preakness Stakes, plus 2 other Gr1 races this season) "is scheduled to breed mares on southern hemisphere time at its Jonabell Farm beginning on September 1. Darley America chief operating officer Olly Tait commented: "Medaglia d'Oro (El Prado-Cappucino Bay, by Bailjumper) is shaping up as one of the world's most exciting stallions. The feats of Rachel Alexandra have been amazing & his progeny are displaying talent on all racing surfaces." Medaglia d'Oro (who on the track himself recorded 8 wins & 7 runners-up from 15 starts for US$5,754,720 earnings) has already sired 10 stakes-winners with just 2 crops on the track (& a total of 20 stakes-horses). He is currently the Leading Sire by North American Earnings, Leading 2nd-Crop Sire & 4th-ranked Leading General Sire by global earnings.

In the US overnight, Charlotte Weber's Live Oak Plantation paid top price of US$275,000 for a filly by triple Gr1-winning Darley stallion & leading US 2nd-crop sire Medaglia d'Oro (out of stakes-winning 14-year-old Phone Trick mare Lolabell) during the 1-day Ocala Breeders' Sales Company Selected Sale of Yearlings (followed by the 3-day Open Sale of Yearlings) in Florida. The filly was consigned by Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck's Summerfield sales agency & Live Oak general manager Bruce Hill told bloodhorse.com: "She's got a solid pedigree & physically she ticked off all the boxes. It all just lined up. She's a big, scopey, strong filly by a sire that has a high probability of getting a good runner. We thought she was going to be in the $300,000 range & she brought a little less. We're very, very happy."
