Next year's Dubai Cup meeting in late March will mark the opening of the new Meydan Racetrack.

Anyone contemplating attending?

Record Australian Entries For World Cup Meeting

Story By Chris Scholktz

Monday, 1 February 2010: Australian stables have supplied a record 45 individual entries for the Dubai World Cup meeting at Meydan on March 27.

They hold 72 nominations across the star-studded racing program, many trainers keen to keep their options open for an invitation to be a part of the world's richest racing program.

However only two Australian horses – Heart Of Dreams (Mick Price) and Weekend Hussler (Ross McDonald) – have been entered for the $US10 million Dubai World Cup (2000m) due to the race being run on the all weather Tapeta track, a surface foreign to Australia's top horses.

Australian trainers are focused on the turf events, providing 31 nominations for the $US5 million Dubai Duty Free (1800m) and 15 for the program's new feature, the $US1 million Al Quoz Sprint (1200m).

But they have been tempted to lodge 14 entries for the $US2 million Golden Shaheen over 1200m on the all-weather. It will be run for the first time around a turn on the new Meydan course, having previously been run on the straight dirt course at Nad Al Sheba.

David Hayes is the only trainer interested in the $US5 million Sheema Classic (2400m) on the all-weather, lodging five nominations, while the $US1 million Godolphin Mile (1600m) on the all-weather has attracted only three Australian entries.

The $US2 million UAE Derby (1900m) on the all weather has also been shunned by all but Hayes with two entries.

The notable name missing among the Australian entries for the Dubai races is the Bart Cummings-trained W.S. Cox Plate winner So You Think. Cummings has not been tempted by the Dubai prizemoney and does not have an entry in any race on the World Cup program.

Lee Freedman's name is also missing from the entry lists but Hayes, Peter Moody, Chris Waller, Mick Price and Gai Waterhouse have all lodged multiple entries across the program.

Australia's 45 individual entries for the meeting is the fourth highest from overseas countries behind the USA (159); Great Britain (75) and Japan (58).

No New Zealand-trained horses have been entered for the World Cup meeting.

Ross Macdonald must be a complete and utter muppet.  nowink

On the other side I would find it hilarious to find Largo Lad storming home for a victory on World Cup night.  lol

Hope the Aussie reps get to the March 27 meeting.

God-willing I shall be there.  Gonna take an umbrella and a bookie's bag, too.

Very interesting card at Meydan this afternoon with Crowded House - favourite for the Epsom Derby this time last year before the arrival of Sea The Stars - making his first appearance since running 6th in the Derby.

Also in that race are the Godolphin rep Alexandros, and the mare from the De Kock stable Front House; who was an impressive winner over last year's carnival.

Personally I think Crowded House can make a winning return.

In the other races, an obvious bet is King Of Rome in the last, whilst Racing Post make their NAP Global City in the 5.05 in what is a hard form race (Sir Gerry winning at 33/1 last week is 5/1 PP here)

The PP market of the 3.10 has Jeremy Noseda's Stoic at 7/4, but I think that Lovelace's run last week was not hopeless and at 8/1 will be having a nibble.

Best of luck to all, hopefully MattGloss, Hillbilly, Buster and Red Rag anyone else with an interest in international racing gets their thoughts up here too  beer

Santana and Elton John are playing in the concert after the races.

And I thought Leo Sayer would be good after the Straddy. chin

Aussies fare well in Dubai barrier draws

Dubai
Tuesday 23 March 2010, 3:29pm
Australian raiders Eagle Falls and All Silent have fared well with barriers two and four in their respective races in Dubai.

The David Hayes-trained Eagle Falls competes in the Group One Golden Shaheen (1200m) on the all-weather track at the new Meydan Racecourse while All Silent contests the Group Three Alquoz Sprint over the same distance on turf.

Corey Brown, who will be aboard both horses, will ride at Warwick Farm on Wednesday before leaving for Dubai.

He has also picked up the ride on the Mike de Kock-trained Mr Crazy Boy in the UAE Derby.

The races will be run in the early hours of Sunday morning (AEDT) with the highlight the Dubai World Cup, the richest race in the world with $US10 million ($A10.9 million) prizemoney.

All Silent's trainer Grahame Begg was expected in Dubai on Tuesday with All Silent to have a serious gallop a day later while Hayes will arrive later in the week.

Eagle Falls goes into the race off a second placing to Wanted in the Newmarket Handicap in which All Silent finished 11th.
