First Foal for Gold Edition
Tara Madgwick
Tuesday, 8 September 2009

Acclaimed as one of the toughest and fastest fillies to ever look through a bridle, $3 million earner Gold Edition has turned over a new leaf as a model young mother delivering a colt at Coolmore Stud in the early hours of last Saturday morning.

By champion juvenile sire More Than Ready (USA), this gorgeous colt looks to have taken the best from both parents.

He is the first foal for Gold Edition, who won 17 races and placed a further 13 times from 37 starts earning $3.1 million for owners Kevin and Tanith O’Brien, who retired the superstar to their boutique Lauriston Farm in Victoria.

Trained by Ron Maund throughout her dazzling career, Gold Edition won 14 stakes races, two of them Group One victories in the MVRC Manikato Stakes and VRC Ascot Vales Stakes and also placed at the elite level on four more occasions including two memorable second placings to Miss Andretti during the 2007 Melbourne Spring Carnival.

As they say in that old cliché, ‘she danced every dance’ and in the case of Gold Edition, that would be true.

A daughter of ill-fated Danehill (USA) stallion Lion Hunter, Gold Edition is booked to visit reigning champion sire Encosta de Lago, so is being given every chance to succeed at stud, just as she did on the track.

Yes magic it did look good, but I wouldn't mind a share in either.
At least Gold Edition seemed to have a bit of toughness associated with her...maybe this will carry on the the "New Edition"
