US Sire Cryptoclearance Dies Aged 25 US 4-time Gr1-winning stallion & sire of 40 stakes-winners Cryptoclearance (Fappiano-Naval Orange, by Hoist The Flag) died aged 25 at Rood & Riddle Equine Clinic in Kentucky "from a heart attack stemming from complications following colic surgery," reported bloodhorse.com. Cryptoclearance (named after the US Naval Security department during World War II) was a US$190,000 yearling at the Keeneland September Sale; overall he recorded 12 wins (including the Gr1 Florida Derby, Gr1 Pegasus Handicap, Gr1 Widener Handicap, Gr1 Donn Handicap, Gr2 Hawthorne Gold Cup twice & Gr2 Everglades Stakes) & 17 placings (16 in stakes, including the Gr1 Preakness Stakes, Gr1 Belmont Stakes & Gr1 Travers Stakes) from 44 starts for US$3,376,327 earnings. Cryptoclearance began his stud career in 1990 at Vinery for US$15,000 & stood there for 6 seasons before moving to Margaux Farm. His progeny have earned US$50 million & his stars include: US champion older male Victory Gallop (sire of 33 stakes-winners); Canadian champion 3YO male Cryptocloser; dual Gr1-winner Strategic Maneuver (dam of sire Ishiguru); & Gr1-winners Millennium Wind, Volponi & Traitor.
