Dolled Up was the dam of one of the better named horses in the 60's a handy performer Man About To Town.

He had a full brother, the dad being Dalray (of Cup fame), who also had a name of sartorial reference - Tails. One of our finest stayers of the 60's and 70's.

If memory serves, a minister in the Menzies government, C E Barnes had an interest in the family.

Was discussed on Brisbane Racing Bits and Pieces a fortnight back, Geoff.

But we understand it takes time for you to catch up. lol

It was then discussed on Radio 4TAB by caller Wayne Wilson.

And, Geoff....would this be one of those threads that you'd argue Management should never archive (or shock, horror, DELETE) due to its ever-lasting relevance and interest?

We all don't listen to 4TAB

And I now see there was a reference to Dolled Up in that thread.

Why should it be consigned to a thread devoted to provincial racing's bit and pieces?

Okay, this Dolled Up is racing in a Brisbane suburb, or wherever the hell Ipswich is, but that's not the story.

The story is of national interest( not in the usual meaning of that) but it is, or might be, of interest to those in other parts of Australia who remember Man About Town or his little brother Tails.

A wise forumite suggested that the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate threads should be moved from Melborne Racing to Racetalk.

Same.

Yes it is one of those threads.

Just let it be.

It's not as though there is another thread along the same lines.

What harm is it doing?

Not all threads need to be on everlasting interest or relevance.

No wonder we can't find all of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Some old sheila about 2200 years ago said

" censored , wv'e already got 2000 of them stored away, surely we don't want all these"

And she put them out for the garbos that fateful Monday night.

If people don't take an interest in racing's history, they might as well just devote themselves to sportsbets.
And if people haven't heard of Tails, and don't care that they don't: I pity them.

Geoff

Of course the thread is doing no harm - I mean I didn't collapse in a fit of rage, or bleed from my ears when I saw it.

But...I firmly believe that tidiness contributes to efficient use of the forum - not only for those who live on here, but for those who come in on occasions.

I doubt there is anyone who'd question that robust debate is more likely to occur if our thoughts on a particular topic are kept in the same thread.

If we start a new thread every time one of us - and I'd be a prime candidate - notices something of incidental, even trivial interest, we'll have the proverbial forest of saplings.

I started a thread named CAN YOU HELP for questions of temporary relevance.  Maybe there'd be benefit in having one titled AUSTRALIAN RACING TRIVIA.  No doubt you and I would find things to contribute.

Despite your desperate attempts to humilate me and denigrate me and demoralize me, I agree withyou on 99% of topics.
