Young jockey Brent Evans, 19, to face stewards after substance test

 * From: Herald Sun
 * October 26, 2009 6:00PM

LEADING apprentice jockey Brent Evans will tomorrow front stewards after testing positive to a banned substance.

Evans, one of the state's most promising apprentice riders, provided a urine sample at the Pakenham races on September 29 which returned a positive swab.

The 19-year-old, who came to prominence after a hot run in Queensland earlier this year, moved to Cranbourne to ride for Mick Kent at the start of the season and has ridden 16 winners.

Would be a real shame. Brent is a talented jock.
Ice can ruin more than his riding career, it can ruin his whole life. Hope he gets away from it.  fingers crossed

Did anyone else see the interview?
I only saw the last 10 seconds of it and thought who is this druggo?
Then it clicked who it was.
I have dealt with many abusers in my time from working in a homeless shelter to working with them.
Lets just say " the eye doesn't lie".

Frankly I dont care what he or anyone else does, but it is a shame to see a talented jockey go to waste.

DJH,

Totally agree--and I had a tear in my eye--thinking---shite--I do not like that look--I have seen it before.

Someone rescue him.

I don't mean to be picky but I get the impression you do actually care.

Brent was not sent home by Kent. He went of his own accord as were his intentions always and sadly he has taken his beautiful girlfriend with him.

Good luck Brent with your future ventures.

My understanding was that the deal to go to Victoria with MK was for 12 months.  Brent commenced there in July 2009.  Vic's loss is Qld's gain.  Extraordinary talent because he is a fearless natural horseman with the strength of a V8 motor.

Just needs decent mentoring and will give premierships a shake in the near future.

Agreed
The kid can ride and can be up there with the best in the land.
He needs to stay in the right company.
A good manager could be a good thing for him.

Remember folks that Brent won three State industry awards in 2009.   He is a talent waiting to shine.

Met him, as a cocky young lad behind the barriers at Dalby. if he can control whats ahead of him then yes will make a good rider. Just an aside question...as a member of the forum is he allowed to enter our tipping comp's?? Bit like laying a horse if he picks away from a horse he is riding. Would the stewards not look into it?. After the Nickolic affair one must ask.
