[ ERROR: SPECIFIED ATTACHMENT MISSING ]

New Page

Anyone active on this forum at present will through the next few days have an opinion on the Cup, and I’m sure play around with their own trifecta combinations.

x

Well let’s see if we can’t have some fun and combine both.

1.  Nominate you top 3 selections for the Cup, with a 2 line or more form reason why.

x

2.  Nominate your $50 Rover Banker trifecta – your top pick to rover as the banker with 5 to 7 other selections.

x

$100 Rover Banker Trifecta on offer on the Emirates on the last day (Sat week) of the carnival for the winner (your selections, 50/50).

Winning criteria will be

1.  Your top pick finishes 1st, 2nd or 3rd (so it’s a successful rover)

x

2.  You successfully get the trifecta correct

x

3.  The highest % return for your $50

x

4. You must write a two line form reason for each selection

x

Entries close 10am Eastern Tuesday.

This is an example of how to enter (copy and post the format if you wish).

A. Nominate your top 3 selections, and a 2 line form reason why. Your top selection becomes your Rover.

1. Alcopop
Looks untaped, a stayer on the up with no weight. A rare stayer with brilliant accelration. Has won all 4 starts this prep, last two blowing them away, the last by 1.3 lengths over 2400 at Caulfield. Should get a nice run mid field from his draw, has to be the one to beat.

2. Viewed
Class stayer, won it last yr and looks cherry ripe for this. Won the Caulfield Cup, lovely pipe opener in the Mackinnon, carries Bart's magical touch, should be stalking them into the straight from his nice draw, sure to be in the finish.

3. Roman Emperor
4 yr old AJC Derby winner who comes through the classic Caulfield Cup form line finishing 2nd to stable mate Viewed. Should push forward and race just behind the speed, should also be improved from his Caulfield run and be there and abouts down the home straight.

B. Your $50 Rover Banker trifecta

11 Rover
1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 15, 18, 21

A bit early to be locking in your picks, or can they be continually revised as jump time approaches ?

Triples - to clarify, is the '7 other selections' the maximum upper limit?  (ie. Am I allowed to rove Gallions Reach with 8 others, and just take a smaller per cent?)

Thanks.

No mate, no limit. You can add as many as you wish, but the winner will be declared on a) getting their rover right, b) nailing the trifecta, and c) the highest % $ return.

I'll start:

11 - Alcopop - Winning a Class 3 over 1200m to winning the Melbourne Cup four starts later? You would have been locked up if you suggested it in August. But my numbers reckon this bloke has disclosed an extra nine lengths in ability since that Class 3 win and there might be more to come. The fact he has a huge strike rate of 70%, has won his last four and is improving rapidly as he gets over more ground suggests it's been there all along just waiting to be tapped. With Efficient, Speed Gifted and Vigor not turning up on Tuesday he's left way out on his own in terms of ratings with only 52.5kg. I doubt Viewed can give him a start, 5.5kg and a beating. Obvious first pick for me.

18. Balsaltico - Got a funny feeling about this one. I think Crime Scene is the best weighted overseas horse, but that's based on it's win three starts back at Newbury over 2010m at 25/1. Crime Scene's rating that day was two kilos better than anything he's ever done prior or since. This horse isn't that far behind him and has a couple of pluses in that he has some proven ability over distances beyond 2400m, and has a far more consistent form line. He has rated within a kilo of his peak four times in his last twelve starts. He's only had twenty-two life starts and that consistency would tend to indicate a high probability that at some stage he can take the next step forward. I'm happy to forgive him the Geelong Cup run as he missed the start, settled a clear last and ran on without being knocked around. Also the Cumani's have shown that they've got a better idea than a lot of the overseas raiders when it comes to bringing the right horse. Chances enhanced even more if it rains or they go heavy on the hoses. Around $50 looks a nice price.

1. Viewed - Proven performer with no question marks. Caulfield Cup showed he's back as good as ever and the McKinnon run was a classic old time warm up for Tuesday. I think he's under the odds but he's obviously going to be very hard to beat.

Rover trifecta :

11 - 4,5,8,9,18,21,24
