RacingNSW – MISSION AND VISION

Ahead of a big couple of weeks for RacingNSW, it is sobering to reflect on the first page of its just-published annual report.

The RNSW Mission Statement:

“To establish a dynamic NSW thoroughbred industry which advances participation, ensures integrity and delivers quality racing at all levels”

RNSW’s defined Vision:

Provide committed, user friendly, professional and cost effective administration which uses best business practice in serving all aspects of the NSW Thoroughbred Racing Industry.

Provide Leadership and Strategic Direction to ensure the NSW Thoroughbred Racing Industry achieves revenue growth, profitability and greater Returns to Owners and Industry Participants.

Provide a Racing Product which appeals to all demographics, and takes all actions necessary to guarantee integrity and confidence in the sport.

Maximise betting turnover on NSW Thoroughbred meetings by accommodating punters’ needs and desires, and work with Tabcorp to promote new wagering products, which reflect changes in demand.

……………..the listed Functions of the Board include:

c. to initiate, develop and implement policies considered conducive to the promotion, strategic development and welfare of the horse racing industry in the State and the protection of the public interest as it relates to the horse racing industry.

-- a job for gentle readers

I leave it to gentle readers to make their own comparison of what RacingNSW says it is doing, with what readers believe it is actually doing: the Productivity Commission set some benchmarks for making such comparisons. [Ideally the report content could have been copied and pasted here with the presentational flourish of the report itself, alas ‘copying’ extracts from the report is apparently not encouraged – and that is a worry in itself.]

Quite apart from RacingNSW, in a public court, getting close to the short strokes in experiencing the outcome of its troubled relationship with Betfair, the jockeys association is meeting on Monday with the RSPCA to discuss the ‘new whip use rules’: see my posting on this thread on Friday.

One likely outcome there is that the RSPCA will be rendered impotent for want of a defensible policy, and the attention will turn to a post-carnival, unlimited-strokes reckoning with Bob the Boss at uARB.

RacingNSW ‘lives’ in interesting times – as it deserves.

"Maximise betting turnover on NSW Thoroughbred meetings by accommodating punters’ needs and desires, and work with Tabcorp to promote new wagering products, which reflect changes in demand."

No working with any other wagering providers to accommodate punters needs?

Surely not more "apprehended bias" from Racing NSW a la the TVN case?

Exhibit 326 m'lord.
