[ ERROR: SPECIFIED ATTACHMENT MISSING ]
Today we saw 8yo ZIPPING (Danehill - Super Scene) make history by winning his third consecutive Sandown Classic (2400 m).
Just two weeks ago, he was lying on the Flemington turf trapped under the barrier stalls at the start of the Mackinnon Stakes. This was to have been his last run prior to his fourth tilt at the Melbourne Cup. With the field falling away, and following a solid 3rd in the Cox Plate, Zipping was given a second-to-none chance of taking out the 2-miler. He'd run 4th in 2006, 4th in 2007 and 9th in 2008.
It's no secret that I'm an unabashed fan of Zipping. I first put him up in the headlines when I saw him run 3rd of 16 in a Wednesday handicap at Sandown in March 2006. My comment on the "old" forum was "it wasn't Nikolic's fault, but the horse should have won clearly." I've followed Zipping closely since then. I've not backed him many times, but when I have backed him I can't recall him ever letting me down.
Zipping has now won close to $3 mill. He's had 39 starts for 13 wins, 2 seconds and 7 thirds.
His low number of starts (for an 8yo) can be attributed to his many minor set-backs, plus the fact that his owner has aimed him at the Spring Carnival in recent years.
Notwithstanding a record that can be matched by few other Australian racehorses, Zipping has his "knockers" - you know, the narks who get no joy seeing someone or something succeed. Perhaps it's because of their dislike of the Williams style, or maybe they themselves are failures, or maybe it's because Zipping has a unique style of racing and doesn't win every start.
I don't understand the "knocks" for Zipping.
Here's a thread where you can record your views on Zipping and register as a fully-fledged knocker.
UPDATE 15.11.10
46 starts for 16 wins 3 seconds and 7 thirds.
Group 1 wins: 2010 Australian Cup (8yo), 2010 Turnbull Stakes (9yo) Group 2 wins: Sandown Classic (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010), 2006 Moonee Valley Cup Listed wins: 2006 Naturalism Stakes
Prizemoney of $4,531,000
Winning Riders: Nick Hall (3), Nick Ryan (3), S Arnold (2), M Rodd (2)

The old Magician Mask bitterness, jealousy and hatred coming out again. No jealously or hatred mate, just a friendly wind up.... . I actually think Chak is a very nice horse and only like giving you queenslanders a ribbing. It's all a bit of harmless fun. No bitterness intended mate...

Heavens above!! ZIPPING is almost fav in fixed odds for the Australian Cup.
Must be a weak affair this year. It's already been discussed somewhere else that it will probably be the weakest line up for a decade

Yes, and I've no doubt that forum would be highly knowledgeable, and would have said the same about the Australian Cup for the past 10 years.

If I do have a bet on the Aus Cup (unlikely) my money will be on him just because he deserves that elusive G1 so much.

Not sure of the need to re-register, MagiC.
My experience has shown that once ya a "knock" for a racehorse, it's a permanent affliction. It's one thing to be seen as a nark: it's another to be seen as waverer.

Not like Lloyd to put a wrap on his horse, but he was on 4TAB this morning saying how pleased the stable is with ZIPPING tomorrow. "Pretty confident" was the final word.
Plus, he said "this is the first time he's been trained for an autumn campaign".

He will not be carrying ANY of mine. But hopefully he gets a fair run, and we see his trademark finish.
