[ ERROR: SPECIFIED ATTACHMENT MISSING ]

Today we saw 8yo ZIPPING (Danehill - Super Scene) make history by winning his third consecutive Sandown Classic (2400 m).

Just two weeks ago, he was lying on the Flemington turf trapped under the barrier stalls at the start of the Mackinnon Stakes.  This was to have been his last run prior to his fourth tilt at the Melbourne Cup.  With the field falling away, and following a solid 3rd in the Cox Plate, Zipping was given a second-to-none chance of taking out the 2-miler.  He'd run 4th in 2006, 4th in 2007 and 9th in 2008.

It's no secret that I'm an unabashed fan of Zipping.  I first put him up in the headlines when I saw him run 3rd of 16 in a Wednesday handicap at Sandown in March 2006.  My comment on the "old" forum was "it wasn't Nikolic's fault, but the horse should have won clearly."  I've followed Zipping closely since then.  I've not backed him many times, but when I have backed him I can't recall him ever letting me down.

Zipping has now won close to $3 mill.  He's had 39 starts for 13 wins, 2 seconds and 7 thirds.

His low number of starts (for an 8yo) can be attributed to his many minor set-backs, plus the fact that his owner has aimed him at the Spring Carnival in recent years.

Notwithstanding a record that can be matched by few other Australian racehorses, Zipping has his "knockers" - you know, the narks who get no joy seeing someone or something succeed.  Perhaps it's because of their dislike of the Williams style, or maybe they themselves are failures, or maybe it's because Zipping has a unique style of racing and doesn't win every start.

I don't understand the "knocks" for Zipping.

Here's a thread where you can record your views on Zipping and register as a fully-fledged knocker.

UPDATE 15.11.10

46 starts for 16 wins 3 seconds and 7 thirds.

Very funny--BAF is a superstar who beat some high class horses, Zipping beat an ordinary lot

Mark

He will not be carrying ANY of mine.  But hopefully he gets a fair run, and we see his trademark finish.

Well he didn't get anything like a fair run, but was still tooooooooo good.

Full credit to Nick Hall for a masterly ride under trying circumstances.  He was the only horse 3-wide for the majority of the trip.  Give him a one-out trail and he gaps them.

And congrats to Team Williams.

Shame the race was such a weak affair with horses who have won only about $10 mill. lol

Was a great win, 3 deep the trip without cover.

Littorio was 3 deep on his back for the trip, so Zipping wasnt the only one deep.

Given I stated earlier how weak our WFA crop is you think I would have found this multiple Cox Plate placegetter today.

I didn't.  tears

Well done to the old timer on finally breaking that Group 1 duck.

A thoroughly deserving win by a group 1 horse in a group 1 standard race by a horse that has always been group 1 class. Danehills 7000th individual group 1 winner.

Just prior to the Aust Guineas commentator on TVN was commenting on the quality(?) of the fields in Guineas and Cup comparing them to fields in the past--rightfully stated that the fields yesterday wouldn't have got within sight of some of the really top class horses of earlier years

Go on, eh?

These guys would be geniuses, no doubt.  Wonder why they're still working for a living?

So it's been proven, Zipping is not much good.

Don't think they suggested that Zipping is not much good--just simply comparing today's quality with previous years.  Greats like Vo Rogue, Better Loosen Up, Octagonal, Saintly etc would have streeted yesterday's field

Gee, I hope they weren't paid to come up with that conclusion.

Ya know, I reckon this year's Melbourne Cup won't be much good, either. Sad
