Richie  Callander had a few  unkind words to say on TVN  about stewards at Betfair Pk yesty being at Flemington for not making more mention of the rough house run Mr Slick had in being unluckily beaten in R 3.
Reading the stewards report doesn't throw much light on the difficuties Richie spoke about but obviously  escaped the so called eagle eyes of stewards rolleyes

But looking through their reports from  last Sat  to confirm something I thought I  spotted on a replay of R9 there was no mention of the horse I noticed.
It was one out one back to the turn and that was the end of the section for it,never saw daylight and finished hard held virtually running 10/14.

It was in yesty and ran an encouraging third at very good odds the place . thumbsup

Richard Freedy tipped it today as a horse to follow .Itsamonty

Interesting one in today's reports...

Subsequent to the running of this race an enquiry was held in relation to an incident which took place in the jockey’s room between Ernie Marchant rider of Final Sequel and Dean Holland rider of Alfiler (NZ).  After taking initial evidence from various parties the matter was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

E Marchant and D Holland were examined by the club doctor and passed fit to fulfil any remaining engagments.

A few head scratchers from Friday...

Stewards permitted the late gear change of a tongue tie on Planchette.

First glance it looked like he was set a task - 'When questioned regarding Lost In Love settling further back than expected, B. Rawiller stated that due to the wide barrier and the gelding beginning only fairly, he was obliged to settle further back than anticipated in an attempt to gain cover.'

Finished 3rd about 2l behind winner. C. Newitt rider of Miss Whytwokay was severely reprimanded for weighing in 1kg over his declared weight.   In assessing penalty Stewards took into account that this was C. Newitt’s first breach of this rule.

Apprentice D. Malouf was severely reprimanded for failing to ride Fassre down to his minimum riding weight.

An inquiry was adjourned into the reasons for Court Ya wearing blinkers in the event which was not a part of its approved gear.

Stewards opened an inquiry into the reason for R Maloney rider of Tassie Devil attempting to weigh in without his girth and breastplate. After taking evidence from R Maloney and the Clerk of the Scales the inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

How does one weigh in without his girth?

I reckon a lot of fat sheilas at Weight Watchers will be closly monitoring the resumed inquiry.

The Stewards have requested that because of the fall in race 5 at Seymour, that TVN not show replays of the head on.  chin

How about that ?

i will never have respect for stewards until it is shown to me that each and everyone of their said panel has sat on a 500kg horse running full tilt in a high pressure race.
then i will accept that they know what they are talking about.
what was that saying about trying to tell your grandmother how to suck eggs?

What was it Tommy Smith said 'you don't need to be able to lay an egg to know how to scramble it'

Quite lot of panels have a former jockey or two these days.

There are a lot of Jockeys who ride in races and have absolutely no idea where they are in a race or what's happening around them, I don't think that it is necessary to have being a Jockey on you resume to make a competent steward or vice versa,
In saying that I don't have any respect for Victorian stewards and haven't for over 40 years

Race 8 – BETFAIR ECLIPSE STAKES (Group 3) - 1800 metres: Prior to the start of the race connections advised that Ginga Dude (NZ) would be ridden off the pace from its wide barrier today. Ginga Dude (NZ) settled second last and had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight.
The Stewards questioned M Walker, rider of Ginga Dude (NZ), after the race concerning the timing in which the Stewards were notified of the change of tactics. M Walker explained that he was unaware of the intention to change the tactics of Ginga Dude (NZ) until he was in the mounting yard receiving the instructions from the trainer. He stated that whilst he alerted the trainer to the fact that there was no speed in the race trainer Mr G Boyd was adamant that he wished to vary the gelding’s tactics due to the wide barrier draw and big weight. M Walker further added as Mr Boyd, from New Zealand, would be unfamiliar with the rules in Australia he then advised the Stewards immediately. M Walker added that in his view had he had any luck in the straight his mount may have won. Stewards accepted the explanation and were also mindful under the provisions of AR135A that the connections had up until the order for riders to mount up, to notify the Stewards of any such change in riding instructions.

Looked very unlucky...bad decision to change tactics Mr Boyd isn't too bright.

Was probably one of the dumbest tactical changes in the history of racing.

The horse went from having a good chance to having no chance.
