Warwick Farm trainer David Pfeiffer has decided to start Graceful Anna in the $150,000 Vo Rogue Plate over 1350m at Doomben as her lead up to the Gold Coast event over 1400m on January 9.
Pfeiffer, who worked for the late Warwick Farm trainer Tony Wildman for 15 years, celebrated the biggest win of his short training career when Graceful Anna scorched to victory in the $100,000 Magic Millions Stakes over 1200m at Wyong on December 6.
Graceful Anna blew away her Wyong rivals to win by 2 1/4 lengths but 29-year-old Pfeiffer was not prepared for the filly's winning time, a blistering 1.07.82 that smashed the previous track record of 1.08.24 and close to Iglesia's Australian record of 1.07.16.
"I just went blank and at one point I think I went numb," Pfieffer said of his reaction to Graceful Anna's performance.
"It's a great feeling for a young trainer like me to be given a go with a very good horse.”
Graceful Anna
beat Knot Out and Tallow, a pair who will test the merit of the Wyong form when they race at Randwick on Saturday.
Pfeiffer, who has been training for only two years, does not fear the step up in distance for Graceful Anna at her next two starts.
The filly, a $38,000 yearling, is proving to be a bargain as she has won three of her first four starts and has already earned more than $120,000 prizemoney.
