THE future of the Magic Millions raceday has all but been assured after the Brisbane Racing Club last night formally told the Gold Coast Turf Club they do not want to steal the meeting.
In a stunning revelation, The Gold Coast Bulletin can reveal the board of the BRC, who govern John Singleton's preferred alternate venue Eagle Farm, said the club would not enter negotiations with the Magic Millions company if approached to host the event.
The BRC sent a letter to GCTC chief executive Grant Sheather yesterday after their board this week passed a motion not to make any attempts to poach the $4.6 million raceday.
"BRC has absolutely no intention of attempting to lure feature race dates away from other clubs, specifically the BRC believes the Magic Millions should be held at the Gold Coast racecourse and conducted by the GCTC," read the letter.
"If moves were made by Magic Millions to move the Magic Millions races to Eagle Farm, the BRC would not hold any discussions or negotiations with Magic Millions."
The BRC board voted on the resolution after speculation arose about the future of the event at the Gold Coast and Eagle Farm was again raised as an alternate venue.
Magic Millions would now have to move the event away from Queensland if they wanted to strip it from the Gold Coast.
The BRC said they would only negotiate with the GCTC over the future of a Gold Coast-based Magic Millions raceday and that would only be in the unlikely event the Bundall club decided they wanted to host the meeting but rent Eagle Farm's larger facilities.
Gold Coast Turf Club chairman Andrew Eggleston last night heaped praise on the BRC for their stance.
"This shows that clubs can work together and that's what racing should be about," he said.
"We've got plans to improve and better cater for crowds with the facilities we have at the Gold Coast and this gives us further substance to press ahead with those plans."
Sheather said he was hopeful the formal statement would switch attention back on to the meeting.
"It puts the focus back on the raceday and back on our long-term plans to expand the event for the future and how we can promote it further both internationally and more nationally," he said.
"We want it to stay here, it's a great concept John (Singleton) and Gerry (Harvey) have created.
"They've done a great job and we want to work hand in hand with them."
Sheather confirmed the club had already begun preparations to look at expanding raceday facilities to include the infield for 2011.

No, no. It wasn't a shopping jaunt in Dubai for Bob. Just flew in on raceday morning then out early Monday.
Had a chat with him at the airport and shared a few opinions on the new facilities at Meydan.

Magic You know my thoughts about deletions of thread and posts, but let me say, I reckon some of the things posted about Bob Bentley might be bordering on prospective difficulties for the forum.
Ummm, maybe Magic I do have some value, unlike what was suggested by a Mod elsewhere.

How curious - particularly when one sees that many of the name- calling posts are still in! Can't imagine PK saying anything offensive at all and can't remember Authorised's response! How curious!

Very interesting material thanks to dubbles for providing it . Interesting QRL wants to meet the Full GCTC board not just the trumps. The Godfrey Smith spray was quite entertaining unless you happened to be one of the targets .Bob wouldn't be pleased . MagiC might be getting another request for removal from QRL seeing they've had an earlier success.

Suspect cause Bentley was told a "porky pie" by unknown person that the GCTC Board decision not to allow QR MAJOR equity was NOT unamious when in fact, it absolutely was! Suspect Bentley wants to source out the "porky pie" teller???

See if you can find it online Magic? cause I'm not clever enough to do the cut and paste thing! But mostly same old, same old................! QR's side of the argument, GCTC side of the argument, MM side......................etc. etc. etc. Two pages headed "Bundall of trouble may cost Millions...............Thre is a high horsepowered battle raging at the Gold Coast Turf Club whipped along by power politics, egos and private schoolboy-like feuds" Might be someone else who is "cleverer" than me who can cut and paste the entire 2 pages for you!

Coast Turf Club turns down $75 millionLucy Ardern | March 4th, 2010
THE Gold Coast Turf Club board could be turning its back on the Magic Millions carnival by rejecting a $75 million redevelopment of its Bundall facility.
Gold Coast Turf Club chairman Andrew Eggleston confirmed the board recently voted to accept the deal with Queensland Racing for redevelopment only if the club was the major equity partner.
"We will not enter into any agreement where we are not a majority stakeholder," he said.
But Queensland Racing boss Bob Bentley made it clear from the time the funding was announced that it would only be injected into the club if QR was the major equity partner.

The turf club board is still refusing to meet Mr Bentley about the funding several weeks after the offer was made -- saying full details of the proposal needs to be put on the table first.
Magic Millions organisers have previously linked the future of the event on the Gold Coast to the turf club redevelopment going ahead.
Turf club members and trainers yesterday expressed disappointment.
Winning Magic Millions trainer and turf club member Gillian Heinrich was frustrated about the lack of a meeting between the two parties and said she was concerned about the impact it could have on the multimillion-dollar carnival.
"It would be a sad day to have to go to Brisbane to compete in the Magic Millions," said Mrs Heinrich.
When asked about the future of the event at the Gold Coast if the redevelopment was ruled out, Magic Millions managing director David Chester said: "We will be guided by Queensland Racing.
"Queensland Racing puts $1 million into the Magic Millions Carnival each year. The Gold Coast Turf Club does not put in anything; they charge us," said Mr Chester.
Mr Eggleston said he was not worried about the Magic Millions leaving the Gold Coast with the turf club close to sealing a five-year deal on the event.
Racehorse owner and turf club member Daniel Guy said he supported the proposal from Queensland Racing because of the positive impact it could have on the local racing industry.
Father and trainer Bryan Guy said he believed the two parties needed to 'get together and lay their cards on the table'.
Trainer Howard Wilson said Gold Coast Turf Club had nothing to lose with the deal and he did not understand why the club would not meet Queensland Racing.
