Get rid of it. Trust me dogs like that are not worth the hassle. Fastest dog I ever had won 1 race. Wouldn't go in a field. 1 out ran near track records in trials. In races would wait for the others bastards to jump then follow them around 2 lengths off the 2nd last dog. We got it to win a 3 dog middle distance maiden at moss vale, that was it and even then it didn't really want to win the it just couldn't go slow enough so actually took off past them and bolted in. It's sister with half the ability won 3 at Wenty. Go figure.

Haven't heard of any dog trainers mistreating possums for a long time. Fines are huge these days.

Back in the 70's a live bunny cost $1 and a possum was $30.

I have a family of possums in my roof and keep thinking if they are a big part of my super if I opt to sell them to the trial track owners.

Not sure he'd be able to catch a possum--had a couple that were so slow we had them put down--gee they must have been bloody slow if the same trainer was prepared to give this bloke a start
