I got this from another forum, but it illustrates the weakness of bookies in Brisbane. On January 2nd racing was conducted at both Doomben ( metropolitan Brisbane ) and the Gold Coast.  The following were the final percentages of the SP's on the Doomben races.  Gold Coast may have been the major meeting, but is it any wonder attendances on track are falling ? How many bookies were fielding that day?
Is it any wonder outside a few weeks in winter Brisbane racing holds no interest outside of Queensland ? What has happened with Queensland racing that it allows bookies to get away with such ridiculous percentages ?

1 - 156%
2 - 178%
3 - 174%
4 - 173%
5 - 159%
6 - 181%
7 - 188%
8 - 168%
Thats an average 172 % a race, equivalent to 5's on the head and 5's on the tails in a coin toss.   lol   lol

I am fully aware by shopping around on the internet one can get better odds but as for the on course punters they are left high and dry.

I certainly do not bet with any bookie north of the Tweed River.

Guys, the only reason a bookie would turn up at a meeting such as yesterday's, and some of the mid-weeks, is to allow them to take phone bets.

The on-course "money" would be counted in $100s, rather than $1000s.  They make their business around the fancied runners.  The couldn't care about anything over about $6.

I'm the first to agree that punters of old find the situation difficult to swallow, but it's the way racing is these days.

And it's no one's fault.
