Hi, We are about to enter the racehorse world. Will be choosing from 6 x 4 month old foals to be weaned at 6 months old. I'm OK with horse confirmation, but foals are a bit of a mystery. Can any astute horse owners/breeders/students please send me tips on what to look for when we evaluate these foals?  Cheers,

Hi OldLarsy
I have been checking my replies and am grateful to anyone that has taken the time to respond. This just keeps getting harder and harder the more I find out. I thought educating myself on the subject would make things easier! Am going to take advice given and pick type, then check pedigree. have worked out what sort of conformation I'm looking for, might end up at the yearling sales. Would like to know that its x-rayed and has a full health check. there is so many things that can go wrong, one thing stands out - theres no guarantees!!.
Regards,

Reading your previous posts it seems you are going to train this horse yourself and there's nothing wrong with that but if it's your first time take a mugs advice while your waiting for it to grow go out and buy a tried horse to train and you will learn heaps and less chance of screwing up a young horse it would be a good learning experience for you.
