Warwick Barr, Racenet
Tuesday, 12 January 2010

Chris Scott has asked about the whereabouts of the “dynamic duo”, trainer Noel Daly and rider Tony Marney, who teamed for great success with iron horse Manuan in the 80s.

In a 96-start career Manuan competed in the top sprint and mile races of his his era and won many features including The Galaxy, Ansett Cup at Eagle Farm, Star Kingdom Stakes, Pacesetter Stakes and two Newcastle Newmarket Handicaps.

Daly and Marney are both still plying their trades and combined in July to go within three-quarters of a length of winning a Saturday race at Rosehill with $101 chance Narwee.

However, Marney has been off the scene since after breaking his leg on Goulburn Cup day in November.

“I’ve just had the brace taken off and I will be getting straight into a month of intense physiotherapy,” Marney said.

“Hopefully I will be back at trackwork then and back riding in races within two months.

“I love the challenge and I’ll be back just the same.”

As in the days of Manuan, Daly is based at Warwick Farm with Marney saying that “he’s still pottering around with a few in work as he loves being around horses.”

Racing seems to be a game where both people  and horses just dissapear from the radar so I thought I would start a thread to find out if anyone on here knows what happened to those horses or people.

My first query is Hallmark Star.
Does anyone know what happened?
Was supposedly being set for the Qld Oaks and hasn't run for over a month now?

Whatever happened to The Rhine?
Started one of the favorites in the Blue Diamond a few years ago. Can't remember it having a start after that or hearing anything about it gaining an injury.
John Hawkes had it for the Inghams.
Also can't find it anywhere as a Stallion.

Anyone know?

Bloodhound website has The Rhine having his last start in Hong Kong over 1650m on the 3/5/2009 which he won . Overall his records is listed as 50 starts for 6 wins and $575 000. The Australian  Studbook website lists him being exported to H.K. on 12/9/2005 and his name changed to Rich Dragon.

Agisting horses on the 12ha property he and wife Diane own at Greenvale, on the airport side of Melbourne.

Childs also designs and markets Viper safety vests for riders.

Might not be the right thread (can someone point me in the right direction.....) but I wonder what happened to Paganini's Soul trained by Tony Noonan. Had my eye on him awaiting his return but nothing so far. Has had a year off (just about). Are there any websites out there that provide details on horse's current status e.g. spelling, injured, retired etc?
