Seems Queensland Racing (read Bob Bentley) gets/takes a lot of credit for prizemoney increases in Queensland Racing.

No doubt about it, Saturday prizemoney has increased considerably in recent years. Some would say it had to, as racing for $25,000 on a Saturday wasn't going to be viable for ever.

I had reason today to look up the form of an ordinary nag who was racing in restricted class in Queensland in 2000.

She competed for $10,000 at Toowoomba, $8,000 at the Sunshine Coast and $11,000 midweek at Eagle Farm.

10 years later,  they ran for $10,000 in 4/6 races at Toowoomba last night ($12,000 the other two), they ran for $10,000 in 5/7 races at the Sunny Coast today ($12,000 the other two) and you run for $13,000 when you race in town at the midweeks.

As a comparison, Sydney racing, which is said to be struggling, has increased midweek prizemoney from $20,000 to $27,000 and the provincials from from around $8,000 to $16,000.

Perhaps instead of excreting inappropriate press releases on his website and droning on and on about stakeholders whenever he gets his mug on TV, Bob should actually address the prizemoney issue, and perhaps even do something about it.

It's the most common complaint I hear from owners and trainers around the traps.  Mid-week prizemoney is what causes most ire.

QRL has now accumulated assets of around $80 mill, the large majority of which has come from TAB earnings which previously was doled at to race clubs for use as prizemoney.  (Some used it all and even added, some used only a portion of it.)

QRL has earmarked at least some of the cash funds for racecourse development projects.  About half is in non-liquid assets, such as Caloundra racetrack, etc.

The proposed new racing body will inherit a war-chest of significant dimensions.

the question is who will own eagle farm,doomben,gold coast,ipswich and townsville...thats assuming he part owns rocky,caloundra,toowoomba and mackay next.....cairns with court case against a given as well....if his "structure"{=unknown???}
includes some and excludes others how does a line of fairness and prizemoney and race dates get arrived at...

Prizemoney increases seem very anaemic on jrb's figures. Bob's fiefdom seems to be accumulating a lot of funds, what the purpose behind that is, needs to be explained to the peasantry.

its a major concern when prizemoney on qld midweeks are on a par or less than adelaide and a fair way behind w.a sad

you wont need new infrastructure if you dont have horses to race  chin

Have the number of meetings in Qld increased in the last 10 years?

I only ask because I don't recall the TAB covering at least a meeting a day in 2000

gotta love how bob the rotten one ruled out one cent to prizemoney.......thats what all the stakeholders that bob talks about want...i.e more money for participants???no money in that is there bob when theres building, cosulting, designing and drainage contracts to hand out at the qrl/structure/shonk board he is proposing...0 to the brc and zero to townsville and ipswich...gold coast held to ransom....more of the same from the gondola sinking bentley and his screwball board...new appointees excluded at this stage bleh

Kilcoy will race today Australia Day and in a show of support there will be triple the crowd that will be at Doomben.
There is a class of horse that needs the Kilcoys and Dalby's Walter
