I've seen occasional questions on other threads regarding travel.

What's it like there?  How do you get there?  Where is the racetrack? etc

Let's see if there's any demand for a dedicated thread.

Came across  this on the Whirlpool forum this morning:

Due to the snowstorm occurring in the US this week, Lonely Planet have reduced (free) the App Store price of about a dozen of their guides Click here and scroll down (until Feb 4th). Enjoy.

Nice plans Danewin - good luck working out - have you been to Laos? Interested in going there.

Have tickets booked to HK & Macau in late April - then China in August but might change that one.

How long did you spend in Brunei Westie? I gather it's place you'd only spend a short period in.

No, haven't been to Laos.  At the moment I am trying to work out how much I can save over a period of 2 years to put a deposit on a unit, and if I can afford also to go to China in September/October.

Yeah.

Don't insult the blokes.

But if you do have an overarching wish to insult someone, insult a bloke rather than a gal.

Anyone got any travel tips for Tonga?

Dubbledee.  Haven't been to Tonga, yet, but everything I know and have been told is that it is actually the best of the pacific islands.

I was in Samoa (about a 45 min flight from Samoa) last year for a week in June.  I went in between jobs, and it was between Samoa and Fiji.  As I am a person who does not travel to the real tourist destinations, I took an absolute gamble and decided to go to Samoa.  Best choice ever, it was absolutely brilliant, and truly one of the most stunning places I have ever been too.

Personally my ideal holiday is fast and action packed type adventurous trips.  But going to Samoa made me really appreciate the smaller things in life such as time and tranquility.  I met some wonderful people on that trip, and every night at the hotel, with the same crew we would sit by the pool, drinking our drinks and listening to live music being strummed on the guitar whilst watching shooting stars across the glittering night sky.

It was absolutely awesome, and hence why I would go to Tonga to get that "feeling" again.

Will probably go to Tonga in 2012.

Though not thinking that far ahead as in 2011 have already sorted out my trips:

* Malaysia in less than 2 weeks time for 4 days!!!
* Indonesia (Jakarta) in July for 10 days
* Hong Kong / China / Macau for 3 weeks in September / October.

I booked my internal China trip today with my cousin to Nanjing!  smiley So very excited about that, and am going to spend a bit of time in Macau, and might hike the long way back to Hong Kong through China.  That is, I will cross the border of Macau at Zhuhai, and catch a bus or train to Guangzhou, train it back to Shenzhen, and cross through the border into Hong Kong.

Danewin

Many thanks for those comments re Tonga.

I'm going there in a few weeks, and am looking forward to it.  Haven't been to Samoa, but have seen most of the others.
