Demerit the second best bet of the weekend.

I'd be wanting Manhattan Rain to win here if he is going to win the Guineas.

Quote
"Manhattan Rain's gallop, which was very wide out on the course proper, was nothing short of outstanding," Waterhouse declared.

"He will bolt in on Saturday - he'll win by a couple of lengths.

"He's a lot sharper going into this race than he has been when he's resumed previously. If he wins the Royal Sovereign as easily as I expect he will and then stays as sharp as he is, then I might run him in the Newmarket Handicap rather than the Australian Guineas.

"But if he shows me that he wants further, then I'll have no hesitation going to the Australian Guineas.

"He's very versatile so we can go either way."

It appears that Gai isn't overly confident by declaring that he'll "only" win by a couple of lengths.   tongue

If I were going to have a bet, I'd probably put something on Demerit, but I'll probably just watch this one.

Cracking group of 3yo's.

I get irked when the stable can't give you any real indication of where he's running or being aimed at outside of 'everything' just makes it hard to work out how well they're going, what's expected first up [trainers prerogative of course].

Delago Bolt, The Mikado, Shoot Out all underrated types. More Than Great...his trainer would have a pretty good strike rate with horses first up would he not?

And Demerit highly regarded. Any word on what the stable are expecting first up?

I've been a fan of this bloke from day 1, but I heard David Payne say that he hadn't progressed much physically and then thought his exhibition gallop and trial weren't great. I'll be happy to him go around this time I think.

Gee I was seriously looking at him, but I think I might have to go Demerit now.  Has beaten Trusting and didn't disgrace himself in that brilliant race down the straight in the Spring which my little gun King Pulse nearly pinched.

As funny as it sounds despite the Cox Plate run, Manhattan Rain's Spring wasn't that amazing.  He was only beating Tickets up in Sydney during his good run, and Tickets proved to be just a B grader 3YO.

Hey Elvis...the start before 3rd in the Caulfield Guineas! the start before that he finished alongside Demerit, Trusting, Starspangledbanner.

His 2yo form also has form alongside Headway, Wanted, Phelan Ready.

The Payne stable is a gambling one isn't it ?

Can you take much notive of what he gives the press ?

Does not matter anyway Demerit wins and wins well.

So reading Snowden's comments you wouldn't be worried about backing him first up. The fitness is there if he's good enough.

Great race and a like the toppie but I will definately be putting a line straight through Delago Bolt. Never lives up to his wraps for mine.

Demerit looks llike a good miler/2000m horse in the making. Not sure he'll be that great over sprints. His only 1200m win was a maiden.

True, though I haven't got the impression that he used the media to set up smokescreens. Certainly you tale notice when there is support for one of his though

Judgements are tough on Manhattan Rain!

Never out of a place in his career, 5 of his last six runs have been in Group 1 company, and this in a 3yo crop many are describing as one of the best. How many horses have been placed in a Slipper and Cox Plate - Octagonal is the last one that comes to mind.

Gai is her father's daughter, and never short of optimism, but this bloke is exciting not only because he is a very good horse but he is a blueblood destined for the breeding farm (he is an an Encosta half to Redoute's Choice).

Looking forward to seeing what he can do this time around.

Yep, I'm Manhattan Rain here. By all reports being trained as a sprinter, trialled well and is the class.
