A lot of talk of wet tracks, but I really don't think it's an issue.  Last Saturday was track-record-fast.  This week Melbourne has had about 10mm.  (Drizzling now, but that'll only be another 0.5mm.)  'Clearing showers' forecast this morning.  Depending on what is in the 'clearing showers', it will race somewhere between good 3 - dead 5.

To confirm - currently sunny in Melbourne, light wind, no rain is headed near the track.  'Isolated showers' forecast for tomorrow, track currently dead 4.

Put the punting fund on Good 3.

Raining now in Melbourne (5am local time), might last an hour, but nothing in it.  Has also been a very warm night with some wind.  At worst it might mean the track races Dead 4 rather than Good 3 at Cup time.  Don't let the alarmists scare you into backing the mudders.

(But looking at the form, it you were told it was going to be dead 5 - slow 6, most fancies don't mind that anyway.)

Just back for a run along the Yarra.  I'd rate the flow of water from the storm water drains into the river as a Trickle 3. (On a scale ranging from Dust 1 to Torrent 10.)

No more rain, wind picking up a little.  Jumpers required, mudders not.

For those betting at Flemington, take note that the penetrometer reading on the fence in the straight is 4.86 and on the outside 4.87.

How sad.

Absolutely belting down where I am (about 10 mins from Randwick) at the moment - would say we are looking at a slow at best.
