Correct me if I'm wrong, but a few years back many country Queensland Race tracks were forced to close or "amalgamate" because of economic reasons. Unfortunately we now have days where there is no Queensland races. Mondays that are not public holidays are a case in point. Is there no possibility of a change to this situation?

My guess is that the current default schedule for Qld racing is dictated by (1) available prizemoney (2) industry preferences, and (3) available staff.
As it is most prizemoney allocated on Qld races fails to "earn" an equivalent amount from TAB investments. Mondays would be less likely to pass muster on this criterion.

Taken to its logical conclusion . . The best outcome for TAB would be to scrap all Qld races whose turnover fails to reach a critical level (read most country races) . . seems awfully like that "Yes Minister" show about the most efficient hospital in Britain . . It reached that status by having NO PATIENTS Ive heard that QR smiles a little smile when country meets are washed out . . For the betterment of Qld racing Or have I got the wrong slant on things???

As far as TAB earning enough to make meetings profitable, I remember when the Gold Coast was was deleted from being a course on which the TAB operated. Look at it now.

GC used to race as a non-TAB club because the TAB software was limited to one full Qld meeting per day. And in those days, prizemoney was 2/6d.
When the race-fields legislation is sorted out, I will not be surprised if the southern TABs delete GC from their Saturday operations. Their holds are small, and would barely pay operational costs, when pay-backs to the host State are taken into account.
For such reasons, there might be the need to move GC meetings to a night slot - when the southern TABs would see them as net earners.

DD, just did a quick check and last Saturday Supertab held approx $1m on the GC meeting.
I would think that would give a reasonable profit even after "racefields" deductions

Average Unitab hold per Gold Coast meeting for Dec._Jan.was $2.5 million. Average Unitab hold per Toowoomba meeting for Dec._Jan.was $620,000. If any meeting should be scrapped it's Toowoomba.

I wonder why someone would use figures with the greatly inflated Millions meeting turnover as any normal guide?

Deduct Magic Millions Day. The average is $1,700,000.

There's no suggestion GC races should be scrapped. But if the southern TABs see them as poor earners, there'll be pressure to move them to another time-slot. We can but guess if the investments on Sat afternoon GC would or would no be put into other pools if they weren't on at that time.
Re Twba vs GC on Saturdays...QRL would be contracted to UNiTAB to deliver a twilight program. For now, Twba is it.
(But yes, the world would not stop spinning if the Twba card was deleted.)
