[ ERROR: SPECIFIED ATTACHMENT MISSING ]

Just a couple of months to the multi-million dollar Queensland Winter Racing Carnival.

The recognised opening day for SEQld is at Doomben on May 1 with the running of the Victory Stakes.

The Carnival continues through Eagle Farm, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Sunshine Coast, ending in the Queensland Cup on July 10.

While the locals will end up with a portion of the spoils, they're hard-pressed to repel the interstate and Kiwi raiders attracted by nice people, nice weather, and good tracks.

Already trainers are announcing plans to come to Brisbane.

Looks like we're in for another super-dooper WRC.

Always look forward to the WRC....great racing.  Thumb Up

Added bonus this year is that the AJC carnival finishes on April 24th then we are straight on to Brisbane. Five Group 1 sprints over seven or eight weeks. Should be some big guns show up.

If memory serves me correctly, the last two Melbourne Cup winners came through the Qld carnival..might see the 2010 winner show up.

In February in previous years the QTC has sent a mission to NZ to promote the  Qld winter carnival, distributing programs, and assisting with stabling arrangements, etc.

The new BRC didn't do a promotional tour this year.

Let's hope the NZedders come over in good numbers again.  We certainly need them for our staying races.

Think the trainers who've come previous years would still have it on their agenda. It's one of the good things about the Winter Carnival. Horses coming from NZ as well as from down South.
How much does itcost to send a horse from NZ to Aust? & do Qld Racing offer a rebate to encourage the NZ'ers to make the trip?

The Opera House ready for trial

Bookmark and share
|

Sunday, 14 March 2010:

Distinctive white filly The Opera House will have a barrier trial at Gosford on Monday before trainer Kris Lees decides where the three-year-old races next.

The Opera House has only had two starts for a fifth in a 1400m 3YO Maiden at Newcastle on debut before a luckless second at Gosford in a 1600m Maiden on January 13.

"She'll have a quiet trial on Monday and then we'll decide where we kick off her campaign," Lees said.

The trainer won the Queensland Oaks with Vitesse Dane in 2005 and that is the race he would like to target with The Opera House.

"If she is good enough our plan is to aim her at the Queensland Oaks," Lees said.

One of The Opera House's owners is flamboyant businessman John Singleton, who looks like playing a major role in Oaks races around the country in coming months.

The prominent owner already has the Gai Waterhouse-trained Once Were Wild on an AJC Australian Oaks path while the Anthony Cummings-trained Tallow is likely to run in the Group One Australasian Oaks in Adelaide on Saturday.

Former rugby league great Andrew Johns is also in the ownership of the filly along with eight people who each won a share in a raffle held last year.

Pure white thoroughbreds are extremely rare and The Opera House is even more special as a three-quarter sister to champion Might And Power.

This raider (Monton) isn't exactly assembling, he's been sent to the paddock for a short break as Tim Martin has set his sights on the Stradbroke Hcp.  Monton beat Rock Classic at Rosehill three starts ago then proved that was no fluke with a win in Hobartville Stakes, run over the 1400 metres of the Stradbroke.
