Today at the first day of the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale Lee Freedman paid $65,000 for Lot 2 a colt by Written Tycoon out of Balsamico, a mare by Redoute's Choice. The mare won one race.Approximately another 150 yearlings went through the sale's ring today and Freedman made no more purchasers.

Written Tycoon a first season sire was a winner of two races, one of which was the STC Todman Slipper Trial Stakes. It was placed in the AJC San Domenico Stakes. It stood for $ 8,250 ( inc GST ) in 2007, the year it covered Balsamico.

Later in the afternoon another yearling by Written  Tycoon out of Grammy Award, the dam of 5 prior foals (all winners ) , sold for $85,000 + GST.

There must be something going for this sire when such high prices have been paid for its progeny .

These high prices achieved today are even more perplexing in view of this news item published in May 2009 and the reduction of the stud fee to $6,600 ( inc GST )

Eliza Park Stud is delighted to be ‘moving forward’ with outstanding stud prospect Written Tycoon, following his purchase at the William Inglis Great Southern Sale.

Written Tycoon & Glen Boss Eliza Park Stud CEO Cameron Croucher could not hide his excitement at securing the long term future of the promising sire-son of Iglesia.

‘I’m wrapped, the horse has served over 200 mares in his first two years and his first crop foals are absolutely outstanding,’ Croucher said.

Written Tycoon was re-sold following a dispute amongst the original shareholders in the horse. After a spirited bidding duel the imposing chestnut was knocked down to Bloodstock agent David O’Callaghan, acting on behalf of Eliza Park/Iskander.com for $625,000.00.

‘That was fantastic value for money which was probably linked more to the current economic climate,’ Croucher beamed.

‘We were ready and prepared to pay double that amount, based mainly on the quality of his offspring, and we're delighted to secure him for that.’

‘The buzz about this horse from breeders is huge, we’ve got several crackers by him at home and many of our clients have been raving about his foals as well,’ Croucher revealed.

The sale appears to have been a shot in the arm for the horse with Croucher reporting a steady flow of bookings since his future was settled.

‘We booked 10 mares shortly after he was knocked down, and Iskander.com Bloodstock Manager Suman Hedge advised a further five were booked for them on the same day, including a couple of stakes producing mares.’

‘I was slightly concerned about perceptions when his sale was announced but it’s actually worked in his favour. A captive audience of breeders got to see this magnificent horse in the flesh and appreciate just what a nice horse he is.’

Iskander.com Managing Director Sheriff Iskander also expressed his joy at Written Tycoon staying put at Eliza Park in Victoria.

‘Written Tycoon has been warmly embraced by Victorian breeders, this is clearly evidenced by his levels of support.

'Eliza Park has done a magnificent job with him, as they do with all their stallions, and we are delighted to be moving forward with them in the future.’

Written Tycoon will stand this season at Eliza Park for $6,600 (inc GST)
