Without doubt the best value tomorrow is betting the trifecta on Unitab on Melbourne race eight ( The Australian Cup ). There is a carryover Jackpot of $ 93,236 going into the pool. Assuming the Unitab takeout on trifectas is 20%, a further amount of $466,180 will have to invested to negate the positive effect of the jackpot ie the total pool can get to $558,416.Under normal circumstances, where jackpots are added to quaddies / first fours / Big 6's, the chances of any punter actually collecting and benefeting from the jackpot are remote, however with a trifecta a punter's chances are much better.

Further to my email to Unitab I have been verbally informed of the issue of jackpots.
If in a race at Dubbo during the week $10,000 was invested on the trifecta but only 10 % was placed on the winning combination. Unitab withdraws 10 % of the gross pool ( $1,000) and deducts 20 % as commission. The net payout amount of $800 is then distributed to winning punters. If a punter had 2% of the original pool he will now have 20 % of the new pool , so he would receive a payout of $160, another punter with say, 3 %,his payout will convert to 30 % = $ 240 etc
The balance of the original pool ( $ 9,000 ) is fully held over until say, like today, where it would have been added to the pool on race eight in Melbourne. Once added to that pool the 20 % commission would have been deducted. In effect $7200 would be added to the payout pool.
By adopting this method for partial payouts I was not told whether money not won on a bet type with a deduction rate of say, !7 % was added to a jackpot pool of the same deduction rate of whether it is jackpotted to a pool with a higher deduction rate ,say 20 %. Of course, if the later method is adopted it enables Unitab to make extra revenue.

I did not say they switched the jackpot to a a pool with a higher deduction rate , I said " I was not told ".Maybe DD can take that up with them.

Mate, if they take a rake, then jackpot it and take another rake, they're a bunch of MF thieves.

That sounds OK, then, Bubba. Seems double-dipping doesn't occur.
And to the best of my knowledge, not-won pools are jackpotted to a pool of the same kind, on a race code of the same kind, and in the same State.

More importantly I wanna know what MF'S are.
My guess is that it has something to do with copulation with a female who is not a nullipara.
But then why the apostrophe?
Perhaps Wenona can enlighten us.

LOL
Everyone else would be upset by the MF, you get upset by the apostrophe.
Classic.

DD, my reading of Bubba's explanation is that they ARE double dipping.

So long as the first rake is applied to just the proportion of the pool that was paid out, say 20%, that's OK.

Are you sure about the jackpots transfer across to the same bet types? Last Saturday ( the abandoned Meeting ) there was a jackpot on the Melb Treble and none on a trifecta. This week the trifecta had the jackpot but none was on the treble. They were not the same amounts. If they have the same deduction rate no worries, but if not?

I am sure about the bet type and the code. I wouldn't bet my you-know-whats on the STATE. On that, it might have been Tabcorp who put out a statement a year or so back when challenged. The context was someone from WA - maybe that pest, Grega - who was concerned as to where a WA jackpot would end up.
Ya see they'll squirrel away the funds for as long as they choose. They've turned it into an art form.
Why I'm sure about the code and bet type, is that we see some occasional quinella jackpots of $285 or something paltry like that.
