I have a question.

Why are there two different reserves for each semi? I backed Lochinvar Marlow at big odds and it looks like he is going to get a run but shouldn't there be an order for who gets promoted in the case of scratchings. If you are lucky enough to draw the right semi as a reserve you could get in with favourable scratchings ahead of better performed dogs in the heats.

Surely the eight next best times should be placed in order and they just fill the spots as they come available.

That would be using common sense, sadly the dogs don't always do that.

World, I've been on about this for years, not just for the Egg, but all races.  There is no need to have individual reserves, just number them 9 thru 20 or whatever, and they can carry the rug of the box they start from.

Apparently TAB punters aren't smart enough to cope with that, or so I'm told.

You couldn't do it for every race though Manikato as there will be different grades on the card though the night  chin

No, but the majority of races at, say Wenty park, are 5th grade 520m races (probably 7 of 10 on an average night), so you could for a majority of races run.  Same really as going to a country track and all the general reserves for the maidens and 5th grades.

1st Heat

Well we have last weeks flyer Fancy Mandy from the same box(4) but we won't be getting $4 this week about it. There is nothing in this race with near her class but too short to be backing it. For the multiples 1,2 & 8.

4-2-8-1

2nd Heat

Now here is an interesting race. The flying youngster Arsonist has drawn box 1 twice and box 3 twice for 4 wins in it only starts from inside draws. Has run good times at the vic metros, has good early speed and throws a spanner in the works for High Earner early from the 2. Then you throw in from the 3 cosmic rumble with a best of 29.60 odd and the greyhound of the year and sensational winner last week in the 6 in Cindeen Shelby.

I think the 6 is the best dog and taking it on top, with a smokey in the 7 and it's huge motor as the value in multiples and could be the value to rove in multi's.

6-3-7-1

3rd Heat

the draw has made this interesting. Inside 4 all quick early, outside 4 tend to be slower early but strong.

Going with the dog who tends to do everything right in the 3 to win. However if the 8 gets any luck early and gets across behind the speed it most likely would blow this lot away. This to me is a value race and multiples race. The 6 & 7 can bob up into the placings at big odds.

Would suggest roving the 7 at the odds in tri's and F4 is not a bad move. Gets back but always seems to find ways through and powers late.

3-8-7-6

4th Heat

Best bet here is lay lasts years final winner the 7 at the $3 or $4 it looks like being.

6 flys early, leads and I think wins. 1 drawn inside a wide runner could be place value, and the 8 will be roaring late and loves the track and in all that I think the 4 could be a smokey.

Go with the value and look at 1 or 8 for your multis. Take on the 7.

6-8-1-4 for the record but lay 7 is he bet.

Tri 4 - 2 - 3 51.20
F4 4 - 2 - 3 - 8 270.90
R-d 1 - 4 2.40

Ended up backing the 4 as it got out in the market from the 1/2 quoted earlier. Never in doubt after a few strides. A nice result in the end despite the 3 costing me the tri.

F4 3 - 2 - 6 - 4 463.50

Took the 2 on and got a bit laying it to win but this only covered what I lost on the Multi's in the race.

Tri 3 - 7 - 5 266.40
F4 3 - 7 - 5 - 2 1331.80
R-d 3 - 3 21.10

What a result. As I stated this was the value race of the 4 and a big multi race and in the end a perfect result. 3 as professional as ever straight to the front, the 7 last early as usual managed to find that right run at the first turn to get to 4th about 5L off the placegetters and powered home to nab 2nd on the line. Lets just say all exotics were had and paid well. The 3 winning meant the narrow exotics also got up. Couldn't be happer with the result.

D-d 3 - 2 44.40
R-d 3 - 2 29.30
Qad 4 - 3 - 3 - 2 213.00

Well as I thought I saw no scenario with the 7 winning and took a lot of exotics leaving it out and laid it quite heavily on BF. Got a little back on the exotics but a loss on them but that was very easily covered by the top up in Betfair.

Very nice night overall. If helped someone else good. If not too bad. I at least helped myself.

no great analysis today as the race is simple.

If Fancy Mandy jumps as it has done the last 2 weeks its over before the post the 1st time.
