Betting Innovation Hits Country Tracks Written by: GRNSW 26/03/10
Punters who can’t make it to their favourite country track may not be denied the opportunity for a flutter under a new innovation by corporate bookmaker Betezy.
The company plans to post fixed odds markets at a number of non-TAB meetings throughout the state, including this weekend’s Lithgow and Potts Park programs.
Under the scheme fixed odds will be posted at the conclusion of each nominated meeting’s box draw with betting to cease up to an hour before the first race.
Betezy’s Damian Harris said the idea was to help promote country greyhound racing and not compete against on course bookmakers.
“We’re not competing with on-course bookmakers,” Betezy’s Damian Harris said.
“It’s mainly for owners who cannot get to a track at say Goulburn or Lithgow can have a look and say ‘beauty, my dog’s paying threes, I’ll have a couple of hundred on it’.
“We’re just trying to get more interest in country racing – trying to help the owners in the industry.
“We’re fixed price betting and letting people spend a few thousand dollars on a country event.
“Probably in time we’re going to extend the concept, initially we want to give it a three month trial.
“We’re getting people involved, and in my mind it’s a win-win situation.”
Betezy will let punters on for $3,000 on a graded event and $1,500 on a maiden race and also allow for deductions in the case of late scratchings. The four tracks they will be setting prices for in the short term are Potts Park, Lithgow, Young and Cowra.
Seems a good move by Betezy
although the last time I looked (and last week I told the bloke on the phone as much) their website sucked
If it's been improved maybe worth a look
