This 10f G1 affair is often the best race on the UK/Irish calendar.

The 2018 renewal features the 2000 Guineas winner, the French Derby winner, the winner of the G1 Eclipse and the Juddmonte International and some other top class horses.

Nevertheless, I can't help feel that it's slightly down on class. The odds on fav, Roaring Lion is admirable, but not yet the dominant force of his generation. The gloss has come right off the 2000 Guineas winner, Saxon Warrior, who's been beaten at all 4 starts since his classic triumph. The French Derby winner, Study of Man, prevailed in a blanket finish against moderate opposition for his classic win, but was roundly spanked last start by a colt which finished second last in both the English and Irish Derbies.

It looks the favourite's race to lose, but I expect an improved run from the 20/1 change, Rhododendron. She ran dead last at her most recent effort in a G1 at Deauville, but according to R Moore, felt like the winner until she was badly galloped on from behind, and thereafter eased out of the race.

Study of man looked exceptional last start but when meeting some of these previously he has been flogged out of sight. Canít see him winning.
Surely the lion roars to victory
