In 3 runs this season, Cracksman
1-beat a substandard field in the Prix Ganay at ParisLongchamps,
2-scrambled home by head in the Coronation Cup at 4s on, beating a horse whose form indicates that he is G2/G3 level at best, and
3-was beaten at 2/5 on good ground yesterday at Ascot by a horse he beat by 7 lengths over the same course and distance on bottomless ground in the Champion Stakes last
His pièce de résistance is the Champion Stakes. Aside from that, he's not done anything which warrants the superstar status which he's been accorded.
No doubt he's a champion wet tracker, but it's questionable that he's anything more than a good horse, perhaps racing less than stellar opposition, on dry tracks.
