Stewards' Reports for Dubai World Cup Sponsored By Emirates Airline

SANSHAAWES (SAF) was fractious in the barriers prior to the start, rearing up and getting both forelegs over the front of the stall. SANSHAAWES (SAF) underwent a veterinary examination by the ERA veterinary officer and passed fit to race. PRINCE BISHOP (IRE) reared on jumping and lost ground. Shortly after the start MILITARY ATTACK (IRE) and SIDE GLANCE (GB) bumped when racing in restricted room. Approaching the 1900 metres SURFER (USA) had to be steadied off the heels of HOKKO TARUMAE (JPN) which shifted in slightly. RON THE GREEK (USA) raced wide without cover throughout. Passing the winning post on the first occasion AKEED MOFEED (GB) steadied when held tight by AFRICAN STORY (GB) on its outside. Near the 800 metres, BELSHAZZAR (JPN) had to be restrained when tightened for room by MILITARY ATTACK (IRE) which lay in. For a short distance in the early part of the straight, MILITARY ATTACK (IRE) was held up for clear run. RON THE GREEK (USA) lay out in the straight. Passing the 200 metres, MUKHADRAM (GB) lay outwards, carrying AFRICAN STORY (GB) out. Jockey J O’Brien (RULER OF THE WORLD (IRE)) which performed poorly reported that his mount travelled well throughout the race but when asked for an effort failed to respond to his riding. He also added that in his opinion the colt failed to handle the track conditions. Jockey S D Sousa (AFRICAN STORY (GB)), was fined AED 2000 under the provisions of ERA Rule 9(xvi)(b) for gesticulating prior to the winning post.

Fair comment, Jeff.

A tad difficult to reconcile the Gold Cup stewards' debacle with the 6 months suspension slapped on Pat Cosgrave for moving off the fence to let a stablemate through in one of the prep races.

Either you have proper racing or you don't.

They don't have proper racing in the main.
