The very impressive Sky Field kicks off his new season in race 8 at Sha Tin tomorrow. Won't get it all his own way as he's up in grade and has a smart one to chase in Inner Flame.

Won again at long odds on but not that impressive
Times may tell a different story

Think he was kidding to them in the end, looked like he was ducking in but had the leader covered.

Nice days racing highlighted with Golden Sixty out to continue his winning streak in the Grp 2 Sha Tin Trophy.

race 3 - Computer Patch is unders @ $2.20 imho so I'm going around him to play Big Party @ $9.50 & HKP @ $3.90

race 5 - one of those races where jockey choices stand out, ZP has done all the schooling on the #5 yet rides #1Triple Triple dropping down from class 3, that's enough for me, save on JM's mount #7 Sparky Star

race 6 on the all weather track. I'm speccing one at odds #8 Hero Star, all form is ok but on turf, 2 trials recently on the AW have been good and $14 is enticing. Save #1 & #9

race 7 - Golden Sixty taking on the old boy Beauty Generation. No bet but a good watch

race 8 - another on the all weather, looks to be heaps of speed so #4 Will Power should get his chance to run over them. He's back up in C2 where he's failed before but the speed tips me his way. One at flukers odds #6 Mega Heart will love the pace on & $30 is worth a few $

race 9 - the unbeaten #3 Winning Dreamer is $2.25 but keen to take him on with #6 Chicken Dance 2nd up off a spell and closed off well 1st up and save on #10 Scores of Fun, up in class but down in weight off a really determined win last time out.

Good luck if you're having a play.

Another one to Golden Sixty. Doesn't win by far but definitely knows where the post is.

Think Vincent Ho was kidding to him, he'd throttled down and was watching the infield screen I reckon.

Mouth watering clash in the last today with Mighty Giant / Purton taking on Sky Field / Moreira. Throw in the talented Lucky Express / Teetan and it looks a cracker.

With the step to 1400m I'm back Mighty Giant at the price to beat Sky Field.

Could be a good day for Purton. He's got a flukers hope in the C5 3rd with Shanghai Dragon, then rides the favs in the 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th and rounds out with Might Giant.

1st starter for John Size, Courier Wonder leads and makes a mess of the field under JM in the 4th. Size horses normally improve off their first up performances too  :o

Could be a good one  :o

Big day in HK for Longines International race day.

Classique Legend going around in the sprint off what looked a very moderate trial up against the local hope Hot King Prawn. Exultant over the 2400m and Golden Sixty in the mile make for a great days racing.

The last certainly adds some interest with former Aussies Shadow Hero & Tourbillon Diamond on a Derby path.

Disappointing result in the HK Sprint from Classique Legend slow away back on the rails caught some buffeting when he tried to get clear running but never a chance looks like he has lost form for the time being Danon Smash from Japan too good Ryan Moore.

Outside of Lord Kanaloa's 2 wins of the sprint Japan is 0-27 I believe in terms of runners to winners

Looked really well and full of himself......very comfortable at the finish.
He'll enjoy the pace over there and I'll keep following him.

Stewards not happy with Classique Legend

Former star Australian sprinter Classique Legend has come under fire from Hong Kong stewards who will require the horse to trial and undergo a veterinary inspection prior to racing again.

Classique Legend opened as the $1.75 favourite with Sportsbet for the G1 Hong Kong Sprint on Sunday but was a notable drifter before jumping at $3.80 and the market told the story, the horse was slow into stride and finished at rear of the field (11th) with a bit of interference.

The run caught the eye of stewards who thought it was ‘unacceptable’ and have prompted trainer Caspar Fownes the horse must trial satisfactory before racing again.

“He (Ho) said after being awkwardly placed behind Jolly Banner near the 900 Metres, Classique Legend then came off the bridle and did not travel comfortably for the remainder of the race,” the report noted.

“He added Classique Legend did not quicken when placed under pressure and then failed to finish off the race.

“A veterinary inspection of Classique Legend immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of Classique Legend, a favoured runner in today’s race, was considered unacceptable.

“Before being allowed to race again, Classique Legend will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.”

Travellers,

I dont back them for this sort of thing happening reasons.

Many of them lose lengths off their normal performances.

Yes there are exceptions.

Bit too much of a sweeping statement there, Fours.
The Japanese all seem to travel fine as did a couple of Coolmores.
Eric the Eel was bouncing around like a king.

Classique Legend's trial would have scared me if I owned him.
I would want to see something a lot better than that a couple of weeks out.

Big adjustment for some horses in Honkers......I always hope there is a plan B......because these are good gallopers and deserve proper consideration if they can't adjust!

Valid points in regards to travel and acclimation etc. The unknown is if our sprinters are now good enough compared to previous years.

We think when an o/s sprinter comes down to Australia and loses, we are world beaters but if the same happens to us, we look at travel or other areas as a reason.

We have o/s horses winning middle distance and staying G1 races in the autumn and spring now but they are generally not the best in Europe or Japan. I am undecided on our sprinters now and are we basking in past?

Throughbred Racing Commentary a UK website publishes running rankings.
This list below is dated 6 Dec  just before the Hong Kong meeting.  Now that Classique Legend has gone to Hong Kong and no longer an Aussie the first local is an NZedder at 35 and the first Aussie is at 38.
Verry Elleegant is 72 and I think she is a lot better than that. Melody Belle is overrated.
Perhaps they are right and Aussie horses are not much chop at the moment.

I reckon they would have paid more for Shadow Hero but at the moment 'Eric' is going great guns. Shadow Hero keeps poking up but hasn't looked like winning.

Next up as the distance rises will be interesting.

Classic Legend was lame after the race so I might have been too harsh. I wonder if the betting drift guessed he was lame as he almost doubled in odds.

Someone at Sportsbet asleep on the job.

Happy My Brother in the last at Happy Valley is the former NZ trained  Reggiewood......not Easy Go Easy Win.
Good horse Reggiewood, who ran well at his 2nd start in Honkers at $100.....maybe Hong Kong Derby bound.
