I can't find a general thread for NZ racing so here's one

Xtravagant looked like he was going to bolt in that 1400m race but maybe they went a bit hard and he has come back to them but still won convincingly.

Must be a query on him getting a distance though.

There was a nasty fall at about the 800m mark where the 3rd horse in the big field fell and those sorts of falls can be the worst. But amazingly all other horses avoided the fallen jockey and horse.

Not sure how they are.

That seems rather light compared to the incident.

Thanks for the update Sobig.   emthup

The 2yo race from Ellerslie today looks an exciting race. It features youngsters by Pour Moi, Makfi and So You Think.

Waikato Guineas today - some clarity prior to NZ Derby.

Quinella to Pike pair - deceptive photo finish.

Ranigpo - son of Stryker - perhaps no certainty to go better at distance ??

What isn't in question though is his honesty and willingness to win - 5 from 10 now.

Finished in front of Xtravagant last start.

Xtravagant going around against older horses in NRM Sprint.

I think he's unders though certainly wouldn't rule him out.

Think it's great prep run for Australian Guineas.

Thoroughly recommend watching Xtravagant smoke older horses http://www.racehorsetalk.com.au/racing-talk/xtravagant/

3YO filly Valley Girl upsetting older horses in other G1. Probably not saying lot other horses. That said 2nd and 3rd placed were both form horses.

Winner looks strong Oaks contender - with Syd noms.n

Other G2 feaature the warm fave - Capella - beaten 3rd - behind Mime.

'Ellerslie meeting featuring the Gr.2 Auckland Eye Avondale Guineas (2100m) and the Gr.2 Go Racing Syndications Avondale Cup (2400m)'

Few omissions but plenty of Derby aspirants running.

Rangipo got job done again yesterday.  He strikes you more as tough and honest then any sort of star but that's bit tough when you've won two G2s in row and placed G1.

Sacred Master in Avondale Cup might have future over. 6 wins from 12 starts - clearly still upside. Presume he could bob up in Brisbane later in year if Syd comes too early.

G1 Haunui Farm WFA Classic - more domestic G1 in my mind.

That said Volkstok'n'barrell  and Vespa have performed well here.

Volkstok'n'barrell the winner - quite impressive IMO - that said have to consider the strength of the opposition.

Sydney trip is on the cards but he'd need to be absolutely firing to win top races - plenty of good money for finishing in money though.

Must be pretty wet on the other side of the ditch today.

Racenet advising that Riccarton and Tauranga are both "Heavy 11"  :what:

No need to query that PP. NZ track ratings are 1 to 11 rather than 10 here.

Avondale Guineas tomorrow is the race Gingernuts really showed his wares last year.

NZ have got some good stallions at the moment and I'm pleased to see Ocean Park doing really well.

Micheal Walker has given up the ride on Comin' Through in Sydney to ride Flying Feet, a son of Ocean Park, tomorrow.....$19.00

Same connections and does look to have ability and could be Aussie bound.

Had lots of rain and hopefully track will dry out.

Is anyone aware of any smart NZ form analysts?

Only one I'm aware of is Kiwi Chris from Champion Bets. Is there anyone else?

Cheers
