Trainer Aidan O'Brien has issued a public apology after a mix-up occurred in Friday's Fillies' Mile at Newmarket, reports the Racing Post. The Ballydoyle master's two entrants, Snowfall and Mother Earth, carried each other's numbers and intended jockeys.

Snowfall, reported to have finished third under James Doyle, actually finished eighth under William Buick.

“I contacted the BHA straight away and let them know what is after happening,” O'Brien told racingpost.com, adding that he made the call after watching the race on delay. “We have a team based in England these days because of the coronavirus restrictions, so the problem is the lads that are with the horses at home can't always go racing with them.”
“The BHA stewards have been made aware of a potential issue regarding the Group 1 Fillies' Mile at Newmarket today which may have resulted in the incorrect rider and number cloths being carried by the two horses trained by Aidan O'Brien,” reads a statement from the British Horseracing Authority. “A stewards' inquiry will be held on the racecourse tomorrow to consider all of the relevant evidence and determine the course of events and what action needs to be taken.”

After Addeybb won the Champion Stakes at Ascot overnight (for his first UK group 1 win to add to the 2 he won in Australia in the autumn) does he make Verry Elleegant look good ( 2nd to him both times) or does she make him look good.  At least he should race on next year as he is a gelding.  Perhaps he will be back in the autumn.

Cheers

She is in very elite company Tim.

2nd to Addeyb twice in G1's at the Sydney Easter carnival (and won the Tancred) and now has beaten Epsom Derby winner Anthony Van Dyck in the Caulfield Cup.

Six Group 1's (and probably more to come) so she will get a place on our Champions thread.

Imagine if they didn't bring Addeyb out to Sydney! VE would have won the Ranvet, Tancred and QE2 treble.

Group 1 Coronation Cup for older horses on tonight at Epsom. First prize about AUD 500,000. Where have all the good WFA performers gone.  The Oaks is also on tonight.

Cheers

The King George (12f) is run at Ascot this Saturday and has a disappointing field of 6.

The Goodwood Cup (16f) run next Tuesday may be a better race.  Stradivarius is still in the field.

Cheers

I am not surprised Frankie Dettori has been sacked from Stradivarius as his best days seem to be behind him.

Stradivarius will not be retiring just yet after his improved performance at Goodwood last night over 2 miles (ran 2nd).

Baaeed is going for his fifth straight group 1 win tonight at Goodwood in the Sussex Stakes over a mile.

Cheers
